Dont know if this has already been mentioned. palace fielded an ineligible player v Sheff Utd in may 2009. they were docked the point from the draw they got and fined £20,000 of which £15,000 was suspended

Can't think of any sport where, if a team or individual is found to have done anthing outside the rules, they are not punished and others rewarded.

In boxing, if you bite the other fella's ear off, you get disqualified - the other fella wins.

In F1 if you win the race and after they find something not quite right with your car - you get kicked out and everyone else moves up a place.

In law, we have suffered by a techbnical illegal action - we should be compensated as well as the purpertrators being penalised.

But I bet we will gain didly .....

I would be amazed if Hartlepool did not have three points deducted. However, despite how illogical it might appear, I'd also be amazed if we got awarded the points. The FL should really sort this out pronto, though - leaving it until 26th April at the earliest means there will only be two games left by the time they make their mind up.

My biggest concern with this whole thing is how frequently it happens. Why is there not a printed list online nowadays for everyone to see who is suspended? Surely its up to the FA/FL to keep track of the bookings not the individual clubs?

Its the simplest piece of computer software that would require nothing more than someone someone manually updating cards against player names after each game and then everyone on both teams and the officals will know who should and shouldn't be playing?

Trouble is it will take something like this to happen and affect something major in the Premier League for anything to be done

What like this one?

Any points deducted from Hartlepool should be given immediately to Sheffield Wednesday.

I have just received a message from a mate who is a Harlepool fan. It appears that no-one knew that Liddle had been booked against Orient and they only realised he had been booked once they received the ref's report...which was after the Brighton game. Thus their move to inform the FL. They are hoping for some clemency because of this.

This could be a load of old cack, but sounds kind of plausible. I still think they will be deducted the 3 points though, with absolutely no chance of us being given them. If I was involved with Hartlepool, I would ask them to sort this out way before 26th April and then they will know what the need to do to get enough points to avoid relegation.

Why? Shouldn't they be going out every game to win it anyway? That's what football's about.

As for nobody knowing Liddle got booked, surely HE must

The reason why I reckon there is no hard and fast rules as to what the punishment is because it depends on the result.

If Hartlepool had lost maybe -1 point. If Hartlepool had drawn -1/2 point the fact they won they will be deducted -3/4 points.

Sadly, never have the other team been awarded the result so we will get diddly squat, but as Hartlepool are below us it does benefit us a little.

As you say, load of old cack. The yellow card appeared in the BBC match report, and on the live BBC text (see 83mins 26 seconds):

Leyton Orient 1-3 Hartlepool

Although, to Hartlepool's credit, they did not mention the yellow card in the match report on their own website - even in the stats section.

Will we have an option to request a replay? If we lose our next 4 games (quite possible seeing that they're against teams on the edges of relegation and promotion) we may need the chance to get some more points (especially as we'd have Murray back). If we aren't going to get the points from the FL then surely we should have the chance to win them?

The FL NEVER give the opposition club points they just deduct if they see fit.

End of.

the simple fact of this is - we could have played murray and the game could have been completely different. but we didnt because our affairs are being conducted properly.

it would be an injustice if pools were not at least deducted points. a fine would just encourage teams to ignore the rule: especially when our player suspended is our best striker.

The ref would have to have held up a yellow card after an incident involving the player towards that player and spoken to him about why he had done it.
Its possible all the Hartlepool players, management, subs, directors and fans were looking in one of the flats in the corner of the ground, so missed this happen.

Desperate argument that one.

It always suprisies me how long it take the FA to deal with issues like this.

Makes me laugh that they would deduct Hartlepool the 3 points but not give them to us, basically then, as Poyet said, we will only have 45 results this season. Completely unfair. :nono:
