[Football] Harry Maguire

Afraid I don't believe him.

If I had been beaten on the legs, I'd make sure there were photographs to use as evidence. Show the BBC and let them show the audience to get them on your side. That in itself wouldn't make him innocent, just evidence that there was an altercation. In the clip, he doesn't give a full account of what happened, it is only in the text that it states he denies bribery and of course his legal representatives would have told him to do that. It would have been good to see his expression/mannerisms on film as he states that!

No evidence yet that his sister did go to the hospital and if she did, whether she was tested for the drug!

I agree. The evidence from his sister, or rather the actual medical evidence would prove his story, as would bruises on show on his legs.

Wow, he’s gone from thick as sh*t baller, to master manipulator in about three posts.
It’s more likely that he was more or less saying the truth. Afterall he admits he dished a bit out, but said he was more inured in the fracas than the cops. There are parts of his interview where it’s difficult to believe he was fibbing.

I listened to the Greek Lawyer opposing on R4 on the way to work . . . . and a day or 2 later heard HM give his version of events . .they just sounded odd.

TBH I couldn't give a shit one way or the other.

No do I really .

But he seems like a nice guy for a footballer . Family man , singing autographs , doing photos and all that . He also had to fight hard to get to the very top.
There are many more Other people id have preferred to have seen banged up in a Greek prison .

Dominic Cummings in the Rose Garden all over again.

The player gave an accurate description of all the things he did wrong while maintaining it was all perfectly legal?

I don't think you are remotely correct on this occasion.

No doubt this is why we get hung juries, as I had great diffculty believing he was telling us anything close to what actually happened, and was just trying to avoid having visa issues and losing sponorship deals from having a conviction for assualt and bribery.

We will see what happens when the appeal is heard and accept the veredict, About the only certain outcome is that Maguire won't be taking a holiday in Greece any time soon.

I'm trying to work out whether you're being facetious or you believe that!

I think he's been stitched up.

I think the comparison between him and Cummings is absurd.

I find the two best bets on the table, that he's either thick as mince or as cunning as the man behind the continuing popularity of Boris the Liar, uncompelling.

However, I'm just guessing like everyone else.

I know it's opinions but I would suggest he is somewhere in between. Not necessarily thick as mince but, unlike Cummings, HM has needed the benefit of the best legal advice MU/he can afford along with a PR team.

I thought he came across like a rabbit caught in the headlights. That could be because he was still traumatised or that he was trying to remember to keep to script.

I wonder how easy it is to make this happen.

Can you just rock up to any hospital and ask for a blood test? We've seen with Covid that blood testing is pretty specialist. Maybe it's not that easy.

Over here if you said you'd been date raped the police would have protocol to follow, that has been the result of years of pressure about women's rights and poor conviction rates in rape cases.

That part of the world is decades behind us, look at the British girl in Cyprus last year - she reported a rape and ended up getting arrested for perjury and wasting police time after they forced her to change her statement.

You pay a doctor to take a blood sample and have it analysed.

Possibly a bit extreme to say they are decades behind us!!

As for your comments, surely they aren't just 'rocking up' to a hospital to ask for a blood test. Didn't he report that she was affected by what they allege she was injected with so they would be rocking up for treatment which would include a blood test. If part of his defence is that she was injected then surely one of the first things that would have been paid for either by him or his employers would be a blood test to see if there is any evidence? Nobody has said a test was undertaken!

That makes sense. It's possible they've done it and just aren't publicising the fact. If not it will always cast doubt over that part of the story.

I don't think it is. There's been a few high profile cases in Mediterranean countries. Look at the "wolf pack" case in Spain. The British girl in Cyprus has gone through a horrific ordeal because she reported being raped. It's still much more patriarchal out there compared with Northern Europe.

.

When you consider that a large part of his defence is self defence and being attacked first, you'd think it would be a very important bit of evidence. His party weren't short of money, so paying a doctor would be small fry.
