Say what you like about Mings, but this tweet is an absolute belter in my book…

He’s gone up considerably in my estimation after that.

And if anybody says sports people should stay out of politics, maybe politicians should stay out of sport. If Patel spouts hypocritical rubbish, he has every right to respond.

I like many on here thought Maguire should not be there because I had Dunk specs on and because of the potential risk due to his injury. Thought he was excellent, yes 2 defensive midfielders helped but he picked up most of what got through. Had he played all the games like that he would have been the best player.

Yes, slabbers was decent. The opprobrium was due to the fact that at club level he doesn't seem much better than Dunk (and you can guess the rest). However had he done what I feared - make one mistake that cost us a goal - this thread wouldn't exist.

England have a history of selecting stand out nonentities and we have an almost 'race memory' of the sideways passing and general uselessness of the likes of Tony Dorigo, Mark Wright, Rob Jones, Andy Sinton, Stuart Ripley, Carlton Palmer and Steve Hodge, so it can sometimes be hard to get one's head around the idea that by and large the manager is selecting well from a very decent pool of English talent, now.

Very strange to have Rob Jones within that list. Could easily have been England’s first choice right back for years, if not for injuries. Brilliant player whilst his career lasted.

I was pleased and surprised rapt just how well he played but I still think a Dunk Stones combo would have been better

Harry Maguire has had a brilliant Euros. To be fair, apart from a second half against a great Italy team most of the England boys have.

I only included him because I've never heard of him. Your post maybe explains why.

A tough argument to make when we only conceded 2 goals over 7 matches (and one of those was straight from a direct free kick), plus Maguire scored a goal and struck our most convincing penalty of the tournament. Not really sure what more the defence could have done, unless of course you think we should have kept 7 clean sheets. I also think Maguire brings some on-field leadership, which - for all his other qualities - doesn't seem to be Kane's strong point.

I get that some people prefer Dunk as a player but being objective I don't believe Maguire can be justly criticised for any of his performances during this competition.

He played well. Think others could have as well, but Maguire had a good tournament and is a very decent player.

Obviously he's a very decent player. What he does he does very well.
Still slows play down too much for me, particularly playing left sided.

I agree he was very good and shall not change my mind on that. Until August when he becomes a muppet again like the rest of the squad, hopefully bar one.

Hawksby and Jacobs on TS, reporting players in house at Manure unhappy at slab head getting selected, even after woeful performances.

Not sure he'd get in our side ahead of Dunk and Webster. Nor would I want him to.
