Think of St Richard, our patron Sussex saint. Today is his day too. A proper saint. Not some sword wielding mercenary from overseas who reckons he slayed a small lizard.

Wearing my “Stand or Fall” t-shirt and waiting for Shoreham’s own Wellington Wailers to start singing at the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival. 😊

(Full disclosure... I’ve just been singing “Trelawny”, and feel like I’ve been a bit unfaithful. 😔)

Would have been my brother's 70th birthday today but sadly he left us in December. He was really chuffed Sussex Day was on his birthday. Really, really miss him, would talk for ages about all things Albion.

Happy Sussex Day, even if you are from the West of the county.

Don’t buy into this divisive nonsense.

We are one county, divide by jealous inferior counties( yes, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire, I am looking at you)

We are Sussex, one county one people, one glorious history.

Let our watchword be,

Sussex United should never be divided.

God gives all men all earth to love,
But since man’s heart is small,
Ordains for each one spot shall prove
Beloved over all.
Each to his choice, and I rejoice
The lot has fallen to me
In a fair ground—in a fair ground—
Yea, Sussex by the sea!

From 'Sussex' by Rudyard Kipling (1902)
