Today is Madiba's 93rd Birthday.

To mark the second annual Nelson Mandela International Day, the United Nations is encouraging people around the globe to perform 67 minutes of public service - one minute for every year of the South African leader's own service to humanity.

Has anything been organised over there for this?

Actually I think the South Africans did this yesterday. My friend Karen helped paint a classroom in Dobsonville.

Obviously nothing over here is organised because our government is a total SHOWER

There have been events organised around his birthday, not necessarily all on the day. Anything that gets people out doing something in the community for a short while can only be a good thing imo. Perhaps this day will take off more internationally once he has gone, but it will be interesting to see if it is featured in the news at all other than here.

You don't think this was an SA government initiative do you?!

No of course not. It's a UN thing. I just meant that public awareness and encouragement hasn't happened here because our government is a mess right now, too busy worrying about being found out as the crooks they are
