This is better than the Jam IMO. . . almost a ressurection. He really found himself with Wild wood, and by Stanley Road the band were locked right in, tight and soulful. . . Heavy Soul reflected this nicely too.

Jools Holland show ... I was there too! Noel G came on and did That's Entertainment with Weller and Weller had to re-start one song (possibly English Rose) as he messed the intro up.

And what isn't seen on the DVD is Jools Holland - reading from cue cards - had to re-record his intro to the show 3/4 times as he kept stumbling over the words!!

I was standing over to the left of Weller (looking at him) ... really close ... great show and amazing being there.

The thread has focused on his work with The Jam, The Style Council and in his own name, but he has also supported other musicians and groups where his involvement has brought them to the attention of a wider audience, such as the Stone Foundation.

As always music is all about personal preferences and tastes, but I always think that for most people the music of their youth remains their favourite mainly due to the fact that this is the most familiar. Anyone who has had a lengthy career will have people who only like a certain period of their career and aren't into other periods. Just enjoy whatever you like.

Anyway, three tracks from the three segments of his career.

Three great song choices. I saw The Jam 6/7 times - first being December 1977 at Bournemouth Village Bowl just before my 16th birthday. Only saw TSC once ... but have seen Weller in excess of 50 times ... I've stopped counting!

Last few albums have been superb ... have loved the change in direction (yet again).

One small moment for me on the 'On Sunset' album ... Jim Lea plays violin on 'Equanimity'. Before the New Wave/punk scene came about, I was a big fan of Slade in the early/mid 70s. Slade were the first band I saw live in May 1977. I never imagined a member from Slade playing on a Weller song all those years later.
