Ah. Unequivocal proof. A list of countries.

Well, in the unlikely event that you have travelled to those countries, perhaps stop acting like you’ve never left your fricking bedroom?

Good day to you.

I'm not acting that way. I'm acting as if I didn't buy my whole world perception watching yank culture.

So basically you hate a country with 330 million people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds, for probably in total a couple of thousand business owners and politicians.

Crack on.

Yes.

More sixth form common room drivel I'm afraid. I don't agree with their policy on health care for several reasons, but that is a pretty ropey and childish definition of "slaughtered". If there was the appetite for it, they'd vote for it. That's the thing with slaughter - you'll find there is not normally any element of choice involved. When Stalin wanted a canal built, he decided it was worth tens of thousands of innocent Soviet lives to fulfill his project. On top of that, he executed 1,000,000 Soviets and left 4,000,000 Ukranians to die in a famine rather than make a policy change. Chairman Mao killed 65,000,000 of his own people in the name of socialism. Look at that number again. We may as well ignore the 20,000 state slaughtered students in 1989 because that number pails into insignificance. I can't be arsed to talk about the millions of deaths Hitler was responsible for or any other European (i.e. non American) regimes.

And yet funnily enough, Sweden is desperate to join NATO, an organisation that has always been bankrolled by the United States. It's not really the fault of the US if Sweden decides to privatise industry is it? The UK government has sold off our rail industry to France and Germany - it isn't really the responsibility of those countries to have ensured that didn't happen is it? That was our government's job, and we voted them in.

You are reminding me of those bleating Nigerian politicians demanding apologies and reparations from Europe for slavery, all the while they ignore the rampant corruption and greed of their own administrations and of course the roles of their own people in the slave trade in the first place..

You sound like a right nob going on about the US being the root of all evil. Utter cringe.

"If there was the appetite for it, they'd vote for it" is the thickest of thick arguments. In the not too common cases people vote for anything other than what their family and friends used to vote for while they were growing up, they vote based on information, not reasoning. And the supply of information is controlled - if newspapers tell you that a percentage or two of changes in the taxes is a big question, people will feel the same. If they don't, people will largely ignore that topic and inform themselves regarding whatever the oligarchy-owned media decides to bring up... which is never going to be the advantages of unprofitable health care.

"That's the thing with slaughter - you'll find there is not normally any element of choice involved." Kids in the USA does not choose to be shot. People in the US don't make the decision to be unable to pay their rents. And while you might be right that Mao and Stalin killed more of "their own", the US has killed many million people from other countries - directly or indirectly - and that is not any better.

"And yet funnily enough, Sweden is desperate to join NATO, an organisation that has always been bankrolled by the United States. It's not really the fault of the US if Sweden decides to privatise industry is it?" The US corrupting governments all over the world to act according to their interests is both the fault of the corrupting power (the US) and those who decide to be corrupt (in Sweden's case the politicians and our oligarch family). We want to join NATO because it gets easier to sell weapons so that NATO can kill people in third world countries.

"You are reminding me of those bleating Nigerian politicians demanding apologies and reparations from Europe for slavery, all the while they ignore the rampant corruption and greed of their own administrations and of course the roles of their own people in the slave trade in the first place.."

Quite similar to this Indian bloke then?

Yeah no wonder you don't want to listen to old colonies demanding what is right and fair. The whole world knows you don't want to listen to that.

You can’t hate a whole country (and I had to think twice as a Scotsman! You should see our neighbours!) as there are good, bad, stupid and ignorant people everywhere. I’ve been to the States several times and met some great people but I wouldn’t live there nor do I feel culturally aligned with them

What gets me with USA is that the mass majority would be better off under a European right of centre socialist system - with healthcare, unemployment benefit, social housing, employment rights, paid sickness, vacation. But there media sells them that all this is that socialism is evil. The rise and power of religion - as driven by Cheney as the only way to get the Republicans back in power is scary, as it is supposed to be the country of all religions (as it says in their constitution)

My real concern is what happens if the Supreme Court unpicks other laws that don’t align with their views.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I've spent some great times in America but feel the same as you re living there and not being culturaly aligned. Do feel everything is too much ott overall amongst other things.

Just such a shame that religious bigotry and the gun lobbies, plus right wing media painting socialism as evil as you say, have such a stronghold - it's strangling the progression of the country and what we're seeing at the moment there is really depressing

The USA already has healthcare, unemployment benefits, subsidized housing, employment rights, paid sickness and vacation. What makes you think it doesn’t? The way Republicans will get back in power (the rise and power of religion driven by Cheney? Huh?) is for the country to first elect an incompetent president who will put incompetent socialists in positions of power and drive the economy off the edge of a cliff (in process).

They have … but it’s definitely third world compared to Europe.
I know this as I had the chance of moving to Texas in 2007 with my work. Once you dig down into the extortionately expensive healthcare, the appallingly employment laws and car crash employment terms …. It was a massive no from me.

Laughable absolutely laughable.

Are there forums in the US where a septic will start a 'Happy St George's Day' thread?

If not why should we do this? What's the fukken point?

Yeah I’ve always worked for big US tech companies and workers rights are shit (seen many staff leave with 0 notice and very little compensation vs UK staff), holiday allowance is shit (15 paid days seems about average). you basically HAVE to get another good job with healthcare included otherwise you and your family are screwed - any period without work puts everyone at risk.

I will grant you that health care is extortionately expensive, Obamacare actually doubled the cost. I have no idea what “appallingly employment laws and car crash employment terms ” means, maybe you can elaborate.

I still think you should have taken the job though, you may have even turned into a happy person? 👍

And “third world”? A little OTT I think…

There probably already is, Americans generally love the the English people…if only they knew the love isn’t returned.

Might miss one or two but I'm fairly happy with that.. but I'm not calling the US a shite country based on the people living there - I think I would have a good vacation there and get along fine with most people - but more based on the general impact of those actually deciding what the country is and isn't doing.

North Korea you say?

Not really. Being made redundant at the drop of a hat, 15 days paid leave rather than 25 plus bank holidays, piss poor pensions and generally staying in a job for the healthcare.

If being ill leaves you in debt then it’s third world.
