Put it this way, me and me chums go out for a midweek beer in BH a couple of dozen times a year as opposed to, um, never, in HH .Uncle Sams is the clincher. Oh, and that newish BH Spoons means never having to go into that sh*tty Jacobs Post with the staff that show zero interest in customer service ever again or that rubbish Quench wine bar thing where the only decent beers e.g. Kozel are always non-available and the telly's always showing Chelsea

Moved to Lindfield 18 months ago following 38 years growing up in Brighton and can definitely say I prefer it here. HH itself is a depressing sh*thole but very handy station for London. All the villages in the surrounding area (Lindfield, Cuckfield, Ardingly, Horsted Keynes etc) are very nice with loads of decent pubs and restaurants. The biggest thing however is the people - lots more young families and kids (all our Hove neighbours were age 70+) and friendly - not the pretentious/aggressive c*cks we seem to get ever more of in Brighton.

I was brought up in Danehill and you've hit the nail on the head! Great community based villages with excellent pubs and access onto the forest. Not sure about Horsted Keynes though that village was always a bit dodgy

But when you drive over Ditchling Beacon from Mid Sussex it's double delight you can see the sea and the Amex but it a great view going the other way on good day you can see the North Downs which hides the Palarse areas.

Yes, because Brighton is always being flooded due to sea defences being over-ridden. I wish I lived somewhere safer, like, say, Uckfield.

Burgess Hill ( bugs hole )will soon be getting a new shopping centre and 10 screen cinema.

So many new houses are being built up here that we are getting closer and closer to BH soon it will all merge into one big BURGESS HEATH

Haywards Heath shops are ok for everyday shopping but nothing special. The pubs are generally poor souless places. The restaurants in general are quite reasonable and varied and I personally like La Campana Spanish good value for money. Public transport is good so yes it is a good place to live. Even if I win the lottery I would still live in the area.

Public transport good! you do use the bus then. Heirtage or bus.com or what ever they have changed their name to this year are awful. My kids have to use them for school, both my son and daughter have been on a bus when one of the window has fallen out on to the road.

Unfortunately that's why everybody wants to build in Mid Sussex as its good place to live and get to London or Brighton for work and some great place to go for walks Wakehurst Nymans sheffield Park Ashdown Forest also the Bluebell Railway which they still hope will be linked to Haywards Heath one day and good schools. Unfortunately to many Palace Fans.

Moved to Mid Sussex in about 1991 (work transfer, previously in the Channel Islands and Devon). Took a while to choose Burgess Hill over Haywards Heath (couldn't afford a village property at the time) and been here ever since and grown to really like it. Easy commute to London, countryside literally on the doorstep (nature reserve), Brighton and Gatwick 15/20 mins away, South Downs within jogging distance and we've got decent football team to watch. Town centre is 30 mins walk away - not the best by along way but caters for most needs, particularly if you like coffee shops. Could do with a bit more restaurant variety (Haywards Heath is much better), but BH pubs are better than HH and there is a great range of decent takeaways. It'll do for me.

exactly , each to their own, I loved hove when I lived there , and I love haywards Heath now , it's possible to like both .

Its not that people want to live there so much its just the sea and downs prevent new houses on the coast! If mid sussex want to become a huge housing estate then thats fine! Mid sussex is not prepared to add the heart(parks,sports facilities etc! Crawley 2 on the way minus the facilities!

Not much enthusiasm for East Grinstead on here, I note, which is the other main town in the MSDC area. Unsurprising really, as, apart from quite a pretty old High Street, it's largely uninspiring and an absolute pain in the arse to get to or from.

I grew up in Hurstpierpoint (lovely), moved to Burgess Hill for a few years, and ended up in Haywards Heath last year.

Pluses of HH over BH: more & faster trains to Brighton, better restaurants, slightly better shops (though neither town is up to much in that area). BH has- probably- better pubs, unless you like the pretentiousness of Orange Square or Savannah; a McDonalds and an Uncle Sam's (also a KFC, a Subway, & a Papa Johns within alarmingly close proximity taking into consideration the average body mass of the local community). And the Triangle is better than the Dolphin Centre. Burgess Hill has for years now had a Waitrose, which has always left Haywards Heath seething with jealousy (this is the town whose residents protested at the arrival of a 99p Store ) but we can rest easy, for a Waitrose is currently being constructed by the station, so all is well.

You don't really come to either for culture or whatever, but it'll do me just fine. It's easy to get to pretty much anywhere from thanks to the mainline railway, and neither are Crawley.

Just what we need (not) another higher end supermarket , i'd rather it was Aldi !!
