Hammond is the problem with that midfield.
He doesn't retain possession very well, he mistimes a fair amount of his tackles, his movement and anticipation in the centre are poor and he never offers anything approaching a creative pass.
Unless he is getting forward to score goals he does nothing of any use.
This is not an attack on him as a person it is an assessment of his ability and worth as a footballer of Brighton and Hove Albion.
That is the best summing up of Hammond I have seen for a long time. He is good in the opponents box, a disaster in ours and is neither the holding or creative midfielder that we need.
I disagree with most and think that Adam Elabd could be the holding midfielder as he can tackle but he needs a creative man near him who he can play a simple ball to in order too start attacks.
Not one of Hammonds better games today. In the first half in particular, it was crying out for someone to drop short and offer themselves for a simple 10-15 yard pass, but instead all that seemed to happen was Butters LAUNCHING it in the vague direction of....well, anything upfield really, which just gifted them possession every time.
Hammond needs to drop back and show for the ball from our back four a lot more IMHO and start at least trying to direct things from the middle, instead of running around trying to pick up the scraps from the latest aimless punt up the park. Its just brainless stuff.
Agree. The last 5 or 6 games, he has been anonymous. We desparately needed someone to look up and switch play today. What is the point of having our 2 fastest players as wingers if we keep playing hit and hope balls through the middle?
I think El-Abd does a good job of breaking play up and moving the ball sensibly but you do need someone who can pick out the wingers and play a killer through ball next to him. Maybe Reid needs a run in the middle, maybe Cox needs to be switched there or perhaps we need a new player.
I know there are shortcomings in all areas of our team, and maybe on Monday at my desk, I'll engage in a discussion of them. Just for tonight though, can't you people just be happy that we WON!??
What a load of rubbish - Fraser came on in the 87th minute today, and that was enough time for you to come to that conclusion?![]()
We missed out on that man Currie. Does anybody know where we can find another Paul Rogers?
