At the start of the season, with CMS and Vicente signing raising eyebrows, and the likes of Vincelot, LuaLua & Calderon all plying their trade here, my Prem supporting mates were commenting on the cosmopolitan World XI look of the Brighton team, not understanding how we were doing it. I shrugged and said "Gus."

I expanded upon this by saying I wanted the national hero of a miniscule, obscure, minor nation to sign for us. Because then EVERYONE in that country would support Brighton. Not a great Englishman or a Spaniard. An eccentric goalkeeper captain of Laos. Or a massive wardrobe centre back from Chad. A hilariously awful/amazing striker with 90 caps for Surinam.
