Why is it that people that call it H Block, and every other block 'Block D, Block G, Block A' etc?

H Block was part of the Maze Prison in Belfast, notorious at the height of the troubles.

Smash H block was graffittied on the viaduct wall in Hollingdean Rd for years in the 80's.

on a similar note, why do some (usually on the news) call it THE Withdean, or more annoyingly Sky inventing the team 'Inter Milan'
