If we go up this year, he was clearly very ill-judged with those post match comments

Not really. He made those comments based on the club's policies almost two and a half years ago. If we go up this season, having had an overhaul of those policies, it doesn't make his comments about the club back then ill-judged. The club has changed from what it was when those comments were made, that's partly why we're looking good early this season.

Pretty much what I was going to reply. We went down hill for the two seasons after he made those comments. It has taken an overhaul of every senior position except CEO to get us to where we are now.

Don't agree. He made no reference to his 'ceiling' being a temporary structure, that could be raised at any point.

It has taken an overhaul of every senior position except CEO...

And if a) that ever happened and b) Hughton ever quit, you can bet that Poyet's many noisy detractors on here would welcome him back in the most finely split of seconds.

He was answering press questions. His honesty was refreshing, but others saw it as touting. When he did get the chance to go, he turned it down ie Reading.
He said he enjoyed his time at Leeds, he liked the fans, and his son went to Leeds University. He also said he would like to go back to Valencia one day.

For me the comments after we had just lost to palace in the play offs were a disgrace always will be. He was great for us and I really liked him, but that was the end of the road for me. Now I couldnt give a monkeys who he manages or where he goes.

Yes, if he was referring to Burke he was right, but there was no indication that his 'ceiling' was Burke-related.

If we go up this year, he was clearly very ill-judged with those post match comments, which were quite frankly insulting to the club, and all about Project Poyet.

He managed us for three and a half years, which in managerial terms is a lifetime. Or in the case of Leeds, three chairmen.

With respect, that's a ridiculous argument. To expect everyone to make every comment about things as they are with a proviso as to whether or not things change in the future sounds like you're just desperately clinging to the desire to get one over on him in the face of contrary logic.

"I have always said that during the time we keep improving I am going to be at this football club and the day we hit the roof I'm not. So tomorrow morning I am going to ask if we've hit the roof and to know that I need answers and then we'll see."

First, it doesn't say that we have definitely hit the roof, just that he's wondering if they have, and secondly "if we've hit the roof" making it about the combination of him and the club limited by him being here, not a never changing position that is exclusive to the club.

He turned down the job before Rosler.

I know it's hilarious but why are fans still so keen to put the boot into him?

Because he not only got carried away by his ego, but snidely touted himself around the prem. Which in my view is why we lost to Palarse on that nightmare night, that started with shite and ended with even more of it.
Also not a good reference when a player from his last club reveals he was the most clueless manager he'd ever played under. And was obsessed with not conceding whilst not having a clue to how to setup attacking formations.

Tanno said it in a pre-match press interview, so I see no reason for him to lie.

This.

I remain a Poyet fan, enjoyed the football etc.

He made 3-4 big mistakes for me though:

The 'ceiling' comment.
Selling Murray (hindsight is a wonderful thing)
Treatment of Vicente
Palace team selection and preparation.

But why talk about roofs( ceilings ) at all ?

Why was it all about Project Poyet ?

At an astoundingly sensitive moment why not just say something like 'Deeply disappointed, the club as a whole will look at this in the next few days, and see how we move forward from here ' ???

Loved Gus when he was here, hated him when he took our best players into utter obscurity in the PL. Now?

Meh.

We did pretty well to fluke the playoffs with such horrendous football on show......and also being the 4th highest scoring team.

It's not really about hitting the roof, it is how much a Chairman can trust the manager with his money. After the fiasco of Poyet not rating Murray, or more to the point having a personal issue with him, and then spending £3.5m on CMS, he could have bankrupted the club if he had an open cheque book. In any case we had just bought Ulloa so Bloom still gave him the benefit of the doubt until he threatened to leave a few months later. Gus thought he had Bloom by the balls and was trying to squeeze them tighter and tighter.

For me he built up enough equity in 10/11 for a lifetime of bigmouthed egotism. That season was just magnificent.
