I'd give Gus 9 out of 10 for that effort - I would have left out the bit about not conceding to Chelsea because, in the grand scheme of things, when people look back on Gus's tenure they won't be saying "Do you remember that time when Sunderland kept a clean sheet against Chelsea?" Otherwise, word-perfect.

It's also interesting because there's no reference to the circumstances surrounding his departure. Given his ego I can only assume he's been gagged on that good and proper.

There is always a ''gagging clause'' in the eventual termination agreement but that will not have been finalised now.

However, given that he has left his last 2 clubs in less than harmonious circumstances. Gus already knows that you can't go telling tales. Otherwise future employers won't touch you for fear of it happening to them further down the line.

- CW 2 goals in unlikely 2-2 away draw at Man City on16th April
- CW goal in unlikely 2-1 away win at Chelsea on 19th April
- CW 2 goals in confidence-up 4-0 home win v Cardiff on 27th April

Make no mistake, THAT was the 10 day spell that saved Poyet's worthless hide and masked the underlying failure for another season. And it was all down to Connor Wickham.

To be fair they were pretty much dead and buried. However Poyet played a large part in getting them into such a position before then working his miracle.

According to Wikipedia, Connor Wickham scored five league goals that season, which must equate to the five goals in that ten day spell in April (in the previous season he scored 0 league goals, and the season before that he scored 1 league goal). Poyet joined Sunderland at the start of October.
