If there is one positive to come out of tonight's latest spineless debacle, it is that time is now certainly up for old greasy jug ears.

Millions of pounds spent, dozens of points carelessly thrown away, a top two squad abysmally managed so that it takes until the 45th match to get in the play-offs, continued bottling of all the big matches, two seasons in a row of capitulating when it matters, endless touting of himself for jobs he won't get close to, one appalling signing after another, the biggest crowd and best stadium in the division yet he thinks we should be grateful to have him, one win in six against our rivals, £5 million worth of strikers and still constant pleas for more cash, 1.5 seasons wasted by his personal failure to sign a target man, a style that is effective in one match out of every five and a willingness to pass the blame that would make Redknapp blush.

And still, after ALL that, he thinks it's acceptable to come out minutes after yet another surrender against Palace and defeat in the play-offs and suggest the club needs to persuade him to stay. Is he for real? Any other manager would be grateful to get another chance with us next season. Well I've got news for you, you smarmy cretin, you won't get a better job than this and you've made yourself look like the **** you are in front of the country tonight. Get out of my club and let a proper football manager realise our potential.

Regrettably, I don't believe this situation can continue. The club has to start right now planning for next season - which means they must be as certain as possible whom the most important person at the club will be. I believe the board would find it impossible to get the reassurances of commitment they need from Gus leaving the club permanently on a knife edge – which would be intolerable.

There should be no Parachute payments for clubs who cannot balance their books properly. It would stop teams like QPR taking the piss. It would force clubs to live within their means.

Love Gus, have never doubted his judgement, and have been prepared to enjoy the ride while he learns his trade.

But tonight is NOT the night to start picking a fight with Tony Bloom, who has backed him to the hilt. Tonight is a night to look back on our best season for 30 years, to have a little humility in losing a game we should really have won, and to think about where we go from here.

I know some of this stuff gets lost in translation but I'm disappointed with Gus's apparent lack of dignity tonight. It comes across like it's Tony Bloom who lost the match. Sorry Gus, you need to control your ego a bit more and if you think you're too big for us now, all the best in your next appointment.

Posting that a couple of years ago would have been a wind-up. Sadly it no longer is. The man is genuinely out of his depth at this level of football and, worst of all, his heart is clearly not in it. He wants BHAFC to pump in millions more pounds just to satisfy his ego and enhance Project Poyet, but the reality is many other proper managers have got teams up from this league on a fraction of the budget he has wasted. He's a joke, and he's taking the piss out of every one of you who continues to buy into his self-interested nonsense. Thankfully Tony Bloom is far too shrewd and he will be gone within the next week.

Getting this BHAFC to its current position is no great achievement with the resources at his disposal. He gave us one great season in the third division and he's flattered to deceive ever since. Comparing what we have now to anything in the last 30 years is irrelevant.

The bloke annoys me beyond belief.
We have the constant flirting with practically every Championship and Premier League club with a management vacancy, and then these negative interviews.
At a time like this when the club has come on in leaps and bounds over the past couple of seasons and the bitter disappointment of last night, is it TOO much to ask that it can not be about him for a change?!
He harps on about the 'project' he has here for this club. Actually the project he has is 'Project Poyet' and BHAFC will only ever be a stepping stone for him.
Don't get me wrong i am all for him furthering his career, its only natural and we all know that if a better job comes up then he will go. Fine. But it should surely have to a much better job not just any old thing thats going (Leeds, Reading etc)
If you are that unhappy and have to assess your position on such a frequent basis then go and go now.
He has worked wonders down here but last night we needed and arm around our shoulders and not to be told that he's unhappy and that WE have disappointed HIM!

I thought we were all masturbating the other day for his post-Bridcutt talk. That was wonderful, and his words now aren't perfect, but neither are they the beginning or end of the world, so hopefully people will calm themselves down, be grateful for what we have, and yearn for the security that all of a sudden some feel without. Gus will never be bigger than the club, but he has been a hugely important part of things for the last few years, where've grown enormously and the chanced combination of him coming and all these players happening to need us as much as we need them at this particular time had a miracle sensibility to it. But we'll move on, hopefully, all of us, putting overreactions to bed and deleting the petulance that this current toy-throwing shows.
Some of the comments on here are laughably foolish. To claim that Holloway's clever move to close us down and throw any ounce of creativity in their side through their one star player and has gangly, misleading legs is an outfoxing act of genius is quite inane. They were an average generally defensive side who worked hard and waited for their flair of one to pay off, usually even when it did having no attackers anywhere near his dangerous crosses. We, on the other hand, didn't play as a team last night and our touch was off. So many passes a few inches out that completely broke up any system we had and more than likely lowered our collective confidence as the night went. If the Barnes chances had gone in, then the story would be completely different. But it wasn't bad luck though. It was an off-night where probably a mixture of desperation and slight anxiety interfered. A shame, but we're here to live with imperfections.
Now, for Gus, he has to give himself a decent day's sleep, before going back and training down for a day, seeing the lads, this amazing compendium of honest hardworking chaps who enjoy playing with a bit of style and composure, and knowing that as much as his ambition hollers within him, his pleasure should come from getting the best out of people, as usually worked. A few moments of reminiscence, a chat with TB about what we can put together, and then on with the job at hand of making another brilliant season for us all to be stunned and amazed by. I remain proud and thankful.

I am far more worried about the potential dismantling of our team regardless of if Poyet stays or goes. He has been a great manager for us but is not irreplaceable as one man.

If we see Bridcutt, Upson, Bridge, Ulloa, Lopez and maybe even Barnes, Buckley and LuaLua move on in the summer then all the momentum is lost. How many would actually go I don't know but the first three have got to be odds on to move now we are not going to be in the Prem. FFP is also going to have a big impact as effectively there's no more handouts - it's got to be centred on P&L on players.

The one saving grace is TB. He's a betting man and will have hedged his bets regardless of Poyet's intentions. I am certain that he will have a suitable candidate lined up to take the helm if Poyet does move on- someone who can very quickly secure the services of existing and new players for next season.

Maybe but look what David Moyes did with that club and the funds he had. He is exactly the sort of manager that PL and aspiring PL clubs need. Very astute signings, good man manager and able to work within his means. It's no wonder Rudolph picked him as his replacement.

Very much agreed. And the most important man, our chairman, is still with us and will get this right. The club has progressed in every season he has been in charge. We can do so again. Another year in the Championship is in no way the end of the world but something to look forward to and enjoy. An interesting summer awaits!
