Poyet has raised all of our expectations, to the point that it is easy to forget how bad we were prior to his involvement. Ironic that he is under pressure because of this. But no matter how much I appreciate what he has done for the Albion, I'd be lying if I didn't find some of his decisions at times to be iritating.

After all the missed sitters so far this season I would imagine that the confidence in front of goal for the players is at an all time low.
I don't know how you would get over this other than by scoring goals, why don't they just shoot straight at goal rather than the bottom or top left hand corner or trying to be too technical etc. the goalie would probably least expect that these days.

Gus is doing fine at present, but im not one who will lick his arse unconditionally. I completely agree with his mid season views and know how he feels when he sits there and watches his strikers miss sitters time and again..... not much he can do from the touchline. But, from what he says in his interviews, he knows exactly whats needed and January is a big month for him, assuming he has the cash to spend on new players. Hopefully he can offload some deadwood too to free up vital cash/spaces within the squad.

Its going to be an interesting run in and im looking forward to it.....

You are not going to be any use to him when he is sitting on the loo and finds the toilet paper has run out .

I'm still very much on The Gus Bus.

But I have changed in my outlook and now occasionally ask the driver for directions.
Instead of just blindly licking the windows.

On reflection it's probably the better place to be.

We'll never get a manager who gets it right 100%, and if we did, he'd be poached by a bigger team. Gus gets it right more times than he gets it wrong, which will do for me.
Sacking a manager causes more problems than it solves, more often than not. Just ask the Blackburn fans.

People that do want to get rid of him, when you see clubs like Forest who are much bigger than us having to resort to idiots like McLeish, surely you realize how lucky we are with Gus? Admittedly he isn't perfect, but we play entertaining football and he's improving the squad year on year.

Excellent post, I would point to Blackburn as well. Premiership regulars until a year ago. Now 17th in the Championship and more managers than i have had hot dinners over the last few seasons.

First season: Took a side in relegation zone to mid table respectability.
Second season: Champions of League 1 with five games to go, the performances at Charlton and Peterborough saw the Albion playing the most destructive football I have seen since my first match at The Goldstone in 1973.
Third season: Highest finish since 1990/1, beat two Premiership clubs in cup competitions.
Fourth season to date: Not firing on all cylinders but improvements in the squad and performances (but not results) from last season.

I appreciate that for some on NSC that is not good enough, but for me that's a reflection on a society that has a sense of entitlement without effort.

Sums things up nicely. Whilst Gus is not perfect (who is), I think we have the makings of a gem and I hope he is with us for a long time.

Just his 2nd season was enough for me, I doubt I will ever see us so comprehensively outplay a division than we did then.

Gus is not perfect but he is gradually creating an exciting skillful side. He has sorted the defence out (best defensive record in the division), we've just got to make the final additions and adjustments to our offensive game. Ok, these things take time and, other than the Gus haters (and there will always be some who don't like the manager whoever the manager is), I think the vast majority of supporters recognise that we are in a unique situation in terms of the club's history. We are playing a different brand of football to the majority of Championship teams and are one or two players away from being genuine Premiership contenders. And that's where the frustration comes in because we are so so near, its tantalising you can almost taste it but when we keep missing goals and drawing games instead of winning we inevitably feel disappointed and that's what is reflected on here regularly at the moment. That's why January will be arguably the most important few weeks in the club's history. We will be looking to bring in key players that can really make a difference, who will fit in with the way we want to play, who will help to ensure that we convert those missed chances into goals - but other 20 other clubs (many of whom have more dosh than us and some desperate Chairmen) in this division also think they're so near yet so far and will also be coveting those players - its going to be complicated!!

I love Gus, look how far the club has come under him.

Due to how good things have been under him people are perhaps expecting miracles from him.

Totally this.

The sooner the Gus is 'perfect' brigade turn it down from 11.
The Gus 'has taken us as far as we can go' band wake up and look around them (Forest, Blackburn, Leeds, et al).

The happier we'd all be.

When Gus (finally) beats the scum in March and takes us into the playoffs everyone will see him for the genius he is.
