Gustavo Poyet agrees with AEK FC \\

ANNOUNCEMENTS \\ 29/10/2015 AEK FC announces the agreement with the Uruguayan manager Gustavo Poyet until the summer 2016. The new manager will sign his contract tomorrow.

Gustavo Poyet born in Montevideo, 15 November 1967, played as a midfielder and began his career in his country till the age of 23 (River Plate Montevideo and Bella Vista) while he had a short spell at Grenoble. He then spent seven years at Real Zaragoza (1990-1997) with whom he won the Copa del Rey (1994) and the UEFA Cup Winners (1995).
In 1997, Poyet moved to Chelsea, where he played till 2001, wining the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup. The three last years of his football career he played for Tottenham Hotspurs (2001-2004). He was also part of the Uruguay national team from 1993 to 2000 (26 caps-3 goals) and won the Copa America 1995.

He started his coaching career at Swindon, alongside his ex-Chelsea team mate, Dennis Wise and followed him also at Leeds United. He continued in Tottenham with Juande Ramos, but in 2009 he signed for Brighton, which he rose in 2011 from League 1 (third Professional category) in the Championship (second professional league) whilst he was best coach of the 2010-11 season in League 1.
In 2013 he debuted at the bench of Premier League with Sunderland AFC, guaranteeing the team with Premier League safety, but he also led the team in the final of the League Cup, where Sunderland lost to Manchester City. The cooperation with the English club came to an end last march.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gus stipulated the contract.

He's back working with a team, away from an English winter, then available for another job next Summer without any contract haggling.


i don't imagine Gus sees his future at AEK, so why tie himself to them.
