Bloom is a gambler but I don't think he is reckless, he knows to maintain ticket sales next and to retain Poyet the club has to progress - yes we are spending money like never before but I think that is the only way until our academy and development squad start delivering.
look all I am saying is lets get this in perspective.

we have all on here at various times slagged off in a self rightous way other clubs for "spending beyond their means" and slagging off clubs who have owners who splash the cash....Abramovitch, Glaziers etc....now it looks as though we are doing the same, so I sincerely hope that we have the finances available to do this ( outside of Bloom) that can support such spending!

At the end of teh day, bloom built us a spankingly new horrendously expensive stadium, that Knight hinted the banks would not finance....so hopefullty our business model is based on income from football and the stadium, rather than asking bloom to turna card and finance buying players

Putting together rumours and current trend who ever this mystery striker is he's had premier league experience and he must have a Watford connection somewhere? I'll start the guessing at Tamas Priskin the 25yr old Hungarian international striker from Ipswich who played for Watford in the prem.

Are you serious?

Assuming everyone paid by direct debit the clubs' monthly income from season tickets alone is in the region of £650,000.

Upfront payments for the 1901 club would've made between £1.5 and £2 million.

Monthly income from 1901 is in the region of £200,000 a month.

Obviously Big Tony will be repaying his loan with some of that money but there's enough there to support the playing budget which Gus seems to be making use of.

which is exactly the issue ( and I have put up with 35 years of this). IT must be sustainable and the club must be able to finance these things over and above Bloom or we will be in the same boat as the very clubs we smugly like to slag off.

We've made about 10m from TV revenue and ST sales alone. Add that to the 1.5m we've got from Bennett and i'm not too worried. It's not as if we're chucking around 3m or 4m on a variety players. We're even on transfer spending so far.

I made a similar point on the How are these transfers being financed thread.

Indeed. Or Keogh. Hopefully it won't be Earnshaw.

And whilst we're spending obscene amounts of money, how about 700k on Matt Tubbs as competition for Barnes for the second striker position?

No, just no... we need someone proven at Championship level... Earnie or Tubbs? Tough one... :dunce::facepalm:

Morisson went from non league to Millwall and has just gone to Norwich for 3 million, not saying Tubbs would do the same but face palm is not necessary.

I think you are right to have this view Dave, luckily for us I suspect it is one shared by Bloom.

As he has personally guaranteed the finance for the stadium construction it's perfectly plausible that Gus will now be able to take advantage of the massive increase in income we have experienced. The value of selling out the ST in advance is now being borne out. Also with the sale of Bennett and the loss of Murray's wages the Hoskins and Buckley signings are pretty much self financing at the moment. The next signings will be paid for out of the budgeted pot I'd imagine. I don't want us to go around flashing cash that we haven't got either, but I have no objection to us investing some of our new found wealth in the playing staff. Next season represents a real step up in quality and an upgrade of the team is absolutely essential if we are to, at the very least, consolidate our progress.

This will be the most exciting summer we've had in a long time. We have some cash to spend, and we have people we trust in charge of spending it. Marvellous scenes indeed!

I've supported the Club for even longer than that. The reference to 20 years was the time things went to pieces and the Goldstone fell apart etc. etc. I agree with you about over reliance upon TB to an extent. However, he has actually given the Club the means to progress.

With a fantastic ground, the Club look to be able to generate lots of money from "corporate" seats/boxes and other add-ons like food etc and other non-football events. It will be very interesting to see how our total revenues (not just "bums on seats" crowd figures which don't tell the whole story) compare with the other Championship clubs.

To keep this rolling forward, and even justify the additional seats soon, requires an investment in the Team to keep things moving forward.

I agree with you.

BUT, its not so much the cost of players that bankrupt clubs, its the cost of wages when clubs get relagated. So I hope we are being prudent.
