Cheers Swansea Jack. I wish you well for next season as well. Every job that comes up at the moment, seems to have Gus linked with it. We all know that he will be gone sooner or later, and when he does he'll go with our best wishes. He is already firmly weaved into our clubs history. But nothing lasts forever unfortunately. You have lost a good man in Rodgers, and for what it's worth, I think it's a risk for him. I can fully understand that anyone would want to manage one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but there is no room for error up there. That Yank seems pretty ruthless, so Brendan will have to be on his toes from the off next season. Anyway as I said good luck and I for one hope you achieve 10th place or better. Oh and thanks for not pinching Gus.

Gus will be going nowhere before the start of the season.My worry would be Graeme Jones, if he gets the job and Swansea get off to a bad start and we like last season get of to a flyer. That will be the time that they might look at Gus. I still feel that Gus has not done enough to warrent a PL club at the moment. He would need to take a club up and at least keep them up for a season. Nobody has put Reading and southampton managers at the top end of these lists for the recent managers jobs. Who would have said a year ago Brendon Rogers to Liverpool or Paul lambert to Aston Villa.Both of them have shown this year that they can get a club up to the PL and do well with them once they are up. And that is what Gus will have to do.

My guess - and they're all guesses although 'Not Andy Naylor' may know more - is that's pretty much it. Tarrico gave an interview last year in which he stated year-on-year improvement in the Championship for three years was on the cards,with the step up at the end of that time. That would make sense on a lot of levels including building the squad up by two or three each season.

So would Gus stay three years? I think yes if the offer was from Swansea or Norwich or Wigan. In five years time we should be above them in football's natural order. Villa or Everton might be different but would they want him to be their next manager?

The wild card with a Latin manager could be La Liga and I've no sense how Gus would react to an opportunity with say a Europa League- type club there.

It's kind of you to say so, although essentially most of the time no-one knows anything. Clubs are much better at keeping things nailed down than they used to be, with one or two exceptions.

My thoughts, for what they're worth - I spoke to TB before the Liverpool FA Cup game last season and when I asked him about the chances of Gus leaving he sounded very confident that it wasn't going to happen for a while. Ok, he's a world-class poker player and could probably bluff for England, but there you go. And while on the subject of TB, I imagine he has a plan A, B and C lined up just in case. For example I'd presume he was impressed with the way Lee Clark handled himself in the last game at Withdean, not to mention the way his team played, and filed that away for future reference.

Gus has consistently said that he has plenty of time to keep learning the job, and yet made no secret that he'd go - and that TB would understand - if an unbelievable offer from a special club came up. With all due respect to Swansea and Norwich, they don't really fall into that category. Swansea's too far from his home in Kent anyway. Who would? Zaragoza, Leeds if they go up and Warnock retires, any established Premier League club such as Villa, Fulham, Tottenham.

At the moment, we're making progress every season, and while that keeps happeneing I think Gus will stick to the plan and enjoy the five-year-contract he signed which will have been pretty lucrative. Of course, circumstances may alter things. If our budget doesn't allow Gus to get the players he wants and we're not challenging in October he might get restless. And if, say, West Ham struggle, get rid of Big Sam and are looking for someone who'll play decent football...

As for the bookies, they're in the business of taking people's money, so if there's a surge of bets on a manager, the odds will be affected. How many NSC readers rushed to put money on Gus going to Swansea out of fear that it would happen, thus shortening the odds?

And while I'm here, the reason Adkins isn't mentioned in connection with Swansea or Norwich is that he's already at a club that is bigger than both of them put together, whether we like him and them or not. It has a serious amount of money behind it and one of the best academies in the UK. Palace may boast about Zaha, Clyne, Victor Moses etc, but there's no comparison: Bridge, Bale, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana. I understand there's not much coming through at the moment, but there will be.

Agree with that. Only a few clubs in the Prem could possibly tempt Adkins away. Everything is set up perfectly for him there.
