If it is offered to him he'd take it and he'd take Bridcutt with him. No question.

However, I don't think it will be offered to him. Don't get me wrong, I'm a proud member of his blue and white army but honestly he hasn't done a great deal thus far. Yes, he's guided us to the League One title, we're doing pretty well in the Championship and we've got a couple of Premiership scalps.

Is any of that enough to be given the chance to manage what is one of the biggest teams in the country/Europe?

Apart from winning the League One title with us two years ago, what has Gus actually achieved as a manager?

Don't get me wrong, I love the guy (not in a gay way, of course), but so far, apart from the League One title, he's made us an attractive top-half-of-the-table Championship team with a chance of getting into the play-offs. He, and we, have loads of potential for a bright future, but we're not there yet; we, and Gus, are exciting works-in-progress.

So the idea that he would go straight from us to Chelsea in a few months time is, I believe, complete and utter bollox. He'll need to achieve rather more than a League One title to persuade the likes of Chelsea (or Arsenal) that he could sucessfully manage them.

you my friend,talk sense

I do not agree with all this RDM hype. I believe that it was the senior players at Chelsea who decided they wanted the European Cup and they won it despite having him as manager rather than because he was manager.

Hopefully if Gus leaves we will get who has often been proclaimed as the 'brightest young manager' in the league Dougie Freeman. That would be a coup and a half.

Doubt Chelsea would just give him the job single handed.

If (and it's obviously a big if at this stage) thy offered him anything, it would be with a guy like Hiddink as director of Football or something.

Q: If Gus goes to Chelsea , we get £5M compensation to tear up his contract and he gets sacked after 6 months will he be offered his old job back ?

I think he'd go there as an assistant tbh, al la MA to Leicester. I think he loves Chelsea that much. Would Rafa have him though? :lolol:

Work under Rafa until the end of the season and take over next year.

While I have absolutely no doubt he would crawl over broken glass to get that job I have no idea why they would offer it to him. Chelsea are usually linked with managers who have won things at the highest level as much as I like Poyet he clearly has not done that. Would be a nice amount of compo though

They absolutely fluked the Champions League last season. All the past poor decisions, misfortune and bad luck they allegedly have had were all paid back in spades over the 2 legs vs Barca and the final.

I did suggest to a Chelsea friend of mine this at Christmas and she fell over laughing and I bet the bookies are laughing all the way to the bank

There could actually be something in this, although I can't see it happening until the end of the season. Roman's constant sacking of managers has finally back fired on him, as no top european manager will now touch Chelsea with a barge pole. Where as an up and coming manager would jump at the chance, especially Gus, we all know he would crawl over broken glass, for the top job at the brigde.

Maybe we could have Rafa as our interim manager until Gus is sacked?

Could be worse anyway - at least he wouldn't be joining a club that would then raid us for all our best players. Bridcutt may be good but Abramovich fishes in much bigger oceans...

Wouldnt surprise me if Poyet backed himself large to be manager of Chelsea.

Being serious, Poyet is a manager with potential...........that is all. Top clubs dont appt managers with potentail, they appoint someone who has a history of winning at the very top. For Poyet to get a sniff of a chance of getting a top 4 job he will have to manage someone like Villa/Newcsatle and be a success i.e winning FA Cup or something. Even david Moyes is not guaranteed a top 4 posting and he has done miracles at Everton

I think if anything Roman may just be hitting a brick wall and leave Project Chelsea and move onto a Russian club.

Totally agree about Chelsea, but he did a good job at West Brom and I would think he would slot in easily here, no drastic changes in set up or style needed. That's the most important thing imo. I'd prefer Zola, I've always thought he'd be a good replacement for if/when Gus leaves, that's probably got a lot harder with him doing so well at Watford but I don't know what the long term situation is there.

Adkins and Di Canio can die in a fire.

Do chelsea really have much of cohesive management sourcing plan? They've gone with experience and pedigree, but they've also gone with young and promising. Prior to getting the job at chelsea, what were RDM's achievements? 3rd place and a play off loss with MK dons, and helping a relegated west brom to bounce back going up in second place, where he then struggled in the prem. Avram Grant's pre-chelsea success were all in the israel league.

I wouldn't write Gus off as an option just because "all he did" was turn a relegation fighting league one side into a play off chasing championship side with victories against sunderland, newcastle, chelsea, and decent performances against arsenal, tottenham and liverpool (league cup), while completely revolutionising the club as it moved into a new permanent home, attempting to play football with a continental possession based style.

If I were Gus, with his history and his ambition, I would take the Chelsea job if I ever had the chance.

However, I would also be thinking about the next move, because the chances of remaining in the job for more than 18 months would seem pretty slight.

Where then? Fulham? West Brom? Reading? Swansea?

As I am not Gus, I think I'd be inclined to stay at Brighton and try to see an exciting project through to its conclusion.

We're all doomed I tell you! DOOMED!!!!! Won't someone think of the children!!

Life was so much easier before the internet and NSC, when we didn't have all this collective angst and pointless neurosis gathered in one place and conspiracy theories abounding, and there were no 70+ page will he or won't he threads about Dutch defenders. Bring back The Argus and The Seagull Line as our only sources of Albion news.
