There are reports of casualties after a shooting incident at a Batman film premiere in the US city of Denver.

Police said 30 to 40 people had been injured in the incident, Colorado state's 850 KOA radio reported.

Witnesses said someone wearing a gas mask opened fire and set off some kind of device, perhaps a tear gas bomb.

Reuters news agency quoted a local reporter saying 10 people had died, but this is unconfirmed.

Apparently someone in Denver has fired shots and set off a tear gas bomb in the cinema during the film. I'm sure more details will follow.

Hope nobody is seriously hurt :(

A witness told 9News that during a shooting scene in the film he heard loud bangs and a lot of smoke and initially thought they were live special effects put on by the cinema.

Projectiles came through the wall from the neighbouring theatre screening, where it appears the shooting occurred.

A local Denver radio station KOA, reports that at least 10 people have been killed, and at least 39 people wounded. One person is reported to be in custody.

A witness in the neighbouring cinema has described a "mass shooting". "There are a lot of wounded, a lot dead" the man says. "Some guy in a gas mask tear-gassed theatre nine, we were in theatre eight - he just lit it up," he adds.

It is a very sad indictment of my own views on the world that I read that, shrugged my shoulders and thought, "doesn't surprise me"

When you have a country where every man, woman and child has access easily to firearms.

Stupid gun laws.

I never understand how the 'gun lobby' and National Rifle Association is the States are so powerful.

What's the betting that they'll trot out the usual 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people' bollox

DOH - people kill people...with guns :rant::rant::rant::rant:

Indeed, but last summer when the riots started and then spread I actually started thinking I would feel safer with a gun in the house.

It's no secret, they earn vast sums of money from guns so they'll never get tough on them.

Listening to Denver police radio, it's sobering listening to the emergency services keeping calm through all the chaos. Sounds horrific.

Sky reporting as many as 14 have now died, and perhaps the most shocking thing through all this is that a number of kids are among the casualties.

Well I'm very glad when the riots started tat we didn't live in a country where everyone had a gun - would've been much worse probably.

Off Topic: I see you live in Ghent - beautiful City, and great pub (Het Waterhuis) and possibly the best Curry house in the world (The Raj), on the otherside of the canal to the pub.
