Ha ha no actually, great morning, I'm away for a week tomorrow so in a great mood. Maybe saying "They're shit" was a bit harsh, that's not really what I meant.
But this is my point. Look at the Merseyside derby last night. 5 minutes before kick off and before the teams came out, the Kop were belting out 'Fields of Anfield Road', and the away end was belting out 'We're on the march', and it should have made for an electric atmosphere. But you could hardly hear it because some rubbish pop song was being blared out over the tannoy with some shouty shouty man shouting over the top of it. Why? How exactly does this improve the atmosphere or experience for anyone, children or adults, either in the ground or on the TV? It doesn't, but some Americanised marketing twat somewhere thinks it does, so we have to put up with it. It's like 'Abide with Me' at the Cup Final. When that hymn was sung by 90,000 people together it made grown men cry. Now all you can hear is some fat opera singer wailing it over the top of everyone else. What is the reason for it?

I was 7 when I first went to football. I was hooked on the electrifying atmosphere, the singing, the shouting, the rowdyness, that feeling of the hairs on the back of your neck standing up from thousands of people singing together and the whole emotion of the occasion. The football was secondary to be honest, certainly for the first few games. You don't get that with cheerleaders, ridiculously loud music and a washed up radio presenter drowning out the crowd.

I've got nothing against Gully Girls, and I understand that football has changed, for the better in most parts. But just because the stadiums are safer, people don't run on to the pitch and beat the shit out of each other anymore and the players are paid millions of pounds, it shouldn't mean that we have to turn it into the Superbowl.

I suppose you could argue that having all this 'entertainment' on the pitch before kick off keeps people like myself and thousands of others on the concourses drinking beer and spending money up unti the last second, but this isn't the reason for it in the first place.

I absolutely love the Amex, and I still look forward to every game. It's the first time home games have been good for 15 years, and I am loving every second. And to be fair to the Albion it is a less Americanised / soul-less experience than most new stadiums in the country. Whether that will still be the case in 10 years time, I'm not convinced.

If it was up to me I'd ditch all the pre match fanzone and Gully's Girls nonsense pre kick off, and put it on at half time instead. I used to like half time enetertainment, remember when they used to have penalty shoot-outs between schools and stuff on the pitch at half time at the Goldstone? Great fun. "Sign him up, sign him up, sign him up"...

There's a happy medium to be found, and I would agree we don't want to have presenters or advertisers drowning down the atmosphere, or until we are MLS Mk.II either.
Like has been said - stuff you don't care about that you CAN ignore or avoid, simply ignore and avoid.

Agreed about ht entertainment perhaps including a challenge or skills contest somewhere in that period - no problem with more entertaining distractions that people can watch....or choose to ignore.

Imo the tannoy can be 'tempered' in its' volume to a median that is acceptable for allcomers.
There's no need for a DJ effort at half-times, background music is okay if it needs to be there at all.
The sound of 'Liguidator' at Withdean was always good before the match, so there are times when it CAN work for some.

I am sure this thread is just fishing, but if not it seems more of a 'bring back 1970's football'

That isn't what I'm saying at all, I wasn't even alive in the 1970's for a start.

Strange that, so why would both my Daughters Love to be Gully's Girls one day?

Are you telling me that they wouldn't go to football if Gully's Girls weren't there?

If you want ye-olde-fashioned football go watch Burgess Hill reserves instead

Again, this isn't what I'm saying at all. Gully's Girls are just a small part of what I'm talking about. Having the fantastic Amex without cheeleaders and without Richard Reynolds shouting over deafening re-worked pop songs just before kick off so you cant hear the crowd would not be going back to ye-olde-fashioned football at all.

Maybe you should apologise properly about your They're fat and shit comment!!! It takes a real man to apologise!

I 100% wholeheartedly apologise for my 'fat and shit' comment. It was overly harsh, and I shouldn't have written it.

There is some fighting talk from some of GG on twitter! Commander you could have your hands full!

Blimey, glad I'm going on holiday tomorrow.

That's at the game. What about all the charity work done in the name of the Albion away from the match?

I'm not debating any of that, just the specific argument some people put out that they "do it for free". They may not recieve a wage but the value of those seats is signifcant, that's all.

I'm not sure why you'd bring up the charity work anyway, that's the whole point of charity work, you do it for free.

Exactly, thats the thing the winds me up. They do lots of great work in the community, and they've always helped me with the charity stuff I've been doing. They are even helping me with my next charity project this year

They are a whole lot more than just a pretty face, and fair play to them all

just remember lots of arse kissing when she did a thread

I'd LOVE to kiss her arse.

I'd kiss any of their arses if truth be told.

Hell, I've been away for four months, I'd probably kiss YOUR arse!

(Have I gone too far?!)

This should sort it out nicely  A lot of people like them, always going to be 1 or 2 who dont want any pre-match or half-time things at all. Even the away fans seem to like them (except Millwall who were avoided because they are Millwall).

How much effort goes into learning these routines?
How much energy is spent practising for these routines?
How much courage does it take to preform these routines in front of thousands?

We can't even sing one bloody song, our clubs anthem no less in time.
Some don't know the words.
Some can't be arsed.

These girls deserve our respect and admiration for what they do.

As for the other comments, I would be proud as punch to call any of these girls my daughter, I would be proud as punch if my son came home with any of these girls and introduced them as "My Girlfriend"

The more I think about it, the more sad I get with threads like these.

We are Brighton, a froward thinking innovative football club, doing everything it can to make football an enjoyable experience for ALL ages, families etc.

What do people want? Shall we go back to singing "Your gonna get your fuckin heads kicked in" "You'll never make the station" "Your going home in a county ambulance" that'll be good, attendances will start to dwindle again just as they did in the late 70's, 80's, football will become a battleground again all for the sake of "atmosphere".

Yeah, I'm off to sharpen up some 50p's.

Just far enough away from LDC
On a sensible note - GG's do a cheerleading session for youngseagulls girls at the same time as the young seagulls boys (and any girls who wish) have their 5 a side sessions. Those that attend it enjoy it and clearly is yet another thing that helps anchor the club within the community.

This is about growing the next generations of albion fans and wouldnt be half as effective if the girls didnt dance on match days. I personally enjoy my two boys watching them. They would love 'mummy' to be a Gullys Girl too!

I think we can have both the old style singing and the new stuff. It sits nicely together and when the club help drive the singning of sussex by the sea as has been requested on numerous occasions then I'm sure we'll all be happy.

I'm tired of reading threads slagging off gully's girls! granted some of them are NOT supermodels, but they do a good job and should not be slagged off in the way that they are. I can just imagine some of the ugly fat f**ks slagging them off, take a look at your self before you make disparaging comments about the girls! If you want cheap hookers go to Palace!
end of rant.

I think the seats comment is a little bit unfair...

- Given where all the changing rooms etc are (in the West) then West Stand seats are what they'll need otherwise they'll spend a lot of time working their way around the stadium.
- The club very possibly didn't want fans directly behind Gus et al, where there could be risk of confrontation when things aren't going well.
- After they've finished their set, they will need to cool down and get changed etc. It's not realistic to be in there seats as the players re-emerge for the 2nd half.

They are good seats though.

Exactly

I can only really echo what Mendoza and the others have been saying about the charity work. Having done the cycle ride with Jo, and heard about some of the other events that her and the rest of the GG's have done, it is hard not to be impressed by their dedication to the club and its community work.

That was going so well until you decide to slag off other cheerleaders, or maybe that made it funny

Ive never seen them in the flesh (DONT!!!) but I do know that my daughter is now the only Albion supporter in her school because of Gully's Girls... so I am going to stick my neck out and say that although I loved how it all was back in the seventies I have to admit I do not represent the majority and thus will firmly put my hat in the GGs camp.

From what I've picked up via Brett, twitter, etc over time, it seems, that over the course of a week, a Gully's Girl, will attend a gym training session, a practice session, a kids' cheerleading session, then spend all day from 9.00am on a match-day working on their routine, and someone wants to claim a complimentary ticket for the game should be considered 'payment'?

If those peole want to contact me, I'll find them some work at around £2 an hour.
