I think it would be good to have -something- at half time. I totally agree that it was a bit of a gee-up to have Gully's Girls out before the game. A bit of added bounce.

I'd be surprised if Jimmy Saville was the true reason for axing Gully's Girls...probably more likely to have been trying to save money (although my understanding is that Gully's Girls weren't costing the club very much at all but those clacking abominations that Barber introduced for the play-off semi were presumably much cheaper!).

Barber axed Gully's Girls with the promise of other H/T dancing / entertainment but we've not seen it save for the appalling dance troupe and the excellent opera singer. What about a proper marching band? More of the opera singer, and other acts / entertainment?

I'm all for bringing back Gullys Girls. Never understood why it was axed. If they wanted to do it, then let them.

Couldn't give a toss about them. Apologies to the girls that gave up their time but I am just not that interested in American style entertainment. Waste of time.

Doubt if Louise would have time for GG's these days - what with now being married and a mum!

I can guarantee that she would jump at the chance to do it again if the option was there.

I'm surprised, given how shabbily they seemed to have been treated.

Did Barber actually make an announcement about this, explaining why they were being axed?

I didn't see one, they just became "Gullys Group" for a couple of weeks, and then vanished. I think it's a shame, as it did add a bit to the pre-match rather than just watching players gently limbering up, and the sprinklers doing their thing.

I can't remember which one of his essays it was, but he did attempt to justify it in terms of 'safeguarding.'

Wow, who or what is he "safeguarding"?

If I remember correctly, it was bland reference to 'safeguarding' without explaining what he meant by using the catch-all term.

People in the WSL were openly LEERING at them whilst their hands were concealed in their pockets. Thats what it was.

I can see why Barber didn't choose to be more detailed in his reasoning then!

I don't think you could do that at the Amex without being arrested. That said, don't let me stop you. Give it a go tonight.

THey basically said something like a new group would be replacing Gully's Girls who did street dancing etc. They did it for two weeks and I think included some of Gully's Girls in it, then it was scrapped without any further reason given.

There seemed to have been some inference from some about cost, but I would say they could pay for themselves if done properly. There was also a suggestion that post Jimmy Saville it wasn't appropriate, but that's nonsense or else there wouldn't be a cheerleader left in the country and yet a lot of clubs still have them. They were totally unfounded comments relating to the trial of some of our squad over sex allegations that that had something to do with it which again was nonsense.

In short there isn't a reason I suspect other than money, but as I have said a much tighter unit of six-eight girls would certainly pay for themselves. I know many younger fans and many older fans miss them. And that includes a lot og young girls who saw them as ideal role models. It's a shame on all counts but I really don't see why they can't be brought back. Would definitely help the atmosphere and bring back more of that big match feel.
