Exactly. We finally heard Robbie Savage enthusing about us on 606 last Saturday. But that article does reveal that at least Newcastle have got their 'Machiavellian' excuse (it's nice to get some recognition) in early, so that if we are to finish in first place, we know it's nothing to do with us but all down to some internal sub-plot in Newcastle's hierarchy.
PS for those that know anything about Machiavelli, he f***ing hated conspiracies.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, a huge round of applause for Louise as she emerges from Rafa's arse.

She's a Sunderland supporter, hardly likely to have a love-in with anything from Newcastle

It really reaches a ludicrous low at the suggestion Benitez WANTS to finish 2nd. Yeh, right.

Mackem mischief making
Putting a positive slant on finishing second when Newcastle should be out of sight in 1st.

Another bizarre suggestion: Sunderland fans don't put a positive slant on anything coming from Newcastle

It's not really about the title race though, is it? Brief mention of us and Huddersfield and the rest is about Rafa and Newcastle.

Shocking. The north-east writer writing about a north-east club. The motoring correspondent hasn't covered what cars Brighton players drive ... they must be biased against the Albion too.

Quite honestly, this theme that the media are biased against us/don't cover us enough is getting tedious. We get more than our fair share of coverage and I think, generally, it's been pretty balanced. When we get to the stage when we berate the north-east specialist for not covering us, it's all getting really silly

I've not been that irritated by our lack of UK-wide press coverage

lack of ?
Apart from the flurry of articles about the EFL awards

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...efore-10197939
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/s...rate-nkwkp67qc
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/footb...gue-one-award/
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...FL-Awards.html

and then of course the articles this week about previewing the weekend.

"Glenn Murray continues to score for fun at this level" etc etc
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/footb...hip-promotion/
and The Sun's/Tom Barclay's very Albion spin in their review of the Champ season - Hughton was his manager of the year
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3297903/
Paul Haywards excellent then and now piece in The Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/...ost-destroyed/
and the Albion focus/write up of Hemed's presser in todays vg Times's piece (by a certain @Not-Andy-Naylor )
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/brighton-aim-to-finish-the-job-of-promotion-p28nrnqwz

and The Guardian did a Hughton focused piece on promotion only a few weeks back

"Lack of" being in comparison to Newcastle - as I said, not a gripe I've had, but today Newcastle is genuinely not the top story.

The two comment pieces on the Albion you've mentioned there are by Brighton supporters.

Huddersfield's season has also been under-reported really - the only way Newcastle becomes a genuinely interesting story is if they didn't go up.

I mean, I didn't know she was the North East writer before posting so maybe cut me a little slack?

If the paper or the editor didn't think albion merited the column inches they wouldn't get written.

You wait until they really get started.
There'll be Hughton for England pieces before the summer is out.?

And now, ladies and gentlemen, a huge round of applause for Louise as she emerges from Rafa's arse. What a load of guff. "There've been times this season when Benitez has really had to earn his £5m salary". Yes, of course. No beef with Newcastle having spent a lot as they made a huge profit but that doesn't change the fact that they boast resources way beyond the means of every other club.

To finish anywhere other than top - which they may well do - is an embarrassment. I don't dislike Rafa or Newcastle but this whole article is just making excuses for what's actually been a pretty piss-poor effort at times.

It really reaches a ludicrous low at the suggestion Benitez WANTS to finish 2nd. Yeh, right.

Have to agree with you. "People don't notice Rafa's subtle tactical tweaks". "One of the 10 best coaches in the world." Arse-kissing.

"there is a distinct, slightly Machiavellian suspicion it may suit Benítez to finish second behind Brighton"

Well written piece - and I can see the logic of that from Benitez's point of view.

Might or might not suit Benitez's agenda to finish behind the Albion, but Chris Hughton has boosted his own stock as a manager hugely during his time at the Albion, on a fraction of the available resources. However the season finishes now, Hughton has totally ECLIPSED Benitez as a Championship manager

Putting a positive slant on finishing second when Newcastle should be out of sight in 1st.

I had overlooked the summer transfer profit but they still spent a huge amount which is beyond the dreams of nearly all championship teams.

Actually. We would be out of sight had we broken even in our ''head to head'' matches against them

Jamie Jackson is based in Manchester and writes mainly about its two clubs and Merseyside.

I stand corrected on that one. He is listed as the Guardian and Observer's Manchester Football Correspondent. I hadn't noticed him, because I rarely read anything about Manchester football as we don't often come into contact with it. I hope he'll get the chance to annoy me next year writing about the thoughts of chairman Jose after they hammer us. I suppose there is a large international audience hungry for trivia from inside United and City. I am not sure the same is true of Sunderland & Middlesbrough who should be getting the same amount of coverage as West Brom or Stoke.
