These clues are great and very clever, but it's important that crossword setters don't overuse them, and also make sure that the connecting clues allow solvers to get the letters that will help them reverse engineer the answer (as there could be multiple answers to such clues).

My personal favourite was from the great Araucaria in the Guardian :

thought-provoking article - I started using NSC during the Falmer campaigns organised by that great supporter of the club the late Lord Bracknell. As a result I have made a number of friends and watching the Albion is so much better as there are always friends at the away games before and during the match.
the forum does drive me mad a lot of the time but it was good to be reminded of some of the best articles where we can derive strength fro.m each other. Also, it got me thinking of some of the other more amusing threads… maybe time for an NSC nostalgia rhread to remember some of the obscure and bizarre conversations
