Not to rain on his wonderful achievement but I just have a problem with the assist stat. Whoever in a team takes corners and freekicks is going to have a huge huge advantage in this stat. Of course, it is the same problem with goals. Whoever takes the penalties for a team is guaranteed to have like 5 goals a seaon!!! I guess I just have a problem with all stats.

Swansman, did no one want to play with you when you were a kid? Your self proclaimed "sensible madman" nickname may point to some of your internal struggles!!!

Too much play and no work made Swanny a sensible madman. As for people without internal struggles they all end up like Jack the Ripper.

You can make stats work however you want them too, depending on what you want to portray.
As an aside don't think the stats pick up on the waisted free kicks and shite over hit corners , oh and missed penalties?

He didn't miss, the keeper saved it.

I'd say he should have shot sooner before the keeper came out.

Yeah, agree with that. He should have done better, but it wasn't as easy as some on here seem to think it was. And some of the criticism yesterday on here descending into outright abuse (especially the one referred to earlier in this thread) is very much leaves a few who should (but won't) be ashamed of themselves. Criticism of our players: OK. Abuse NOT OK.

My take was he should have got at least a little elevation on it, force the keeper to contort to make the save. Didn't need to be much - just enough to force the keeper to need to lift that foot off the ground. As it was, along the ground it's a lot easier for the keeper to make the save with an outstretched leg.

If he'd have gone for the disco outside of the boot chip curler it'd have hit the post. It's written in the BHA laws of shooting/scoring

9 thumbs ups and a Mod's warning (hang your head in shame, Goldstone1976) for pointing out in a humurous manner that "could of" and "should of" are not part of the English language.

And you owe everyone a new irony meter for misspelling humorous.

That's not really the point is it. Gross was brought in to take free kicks and corners because of his amazing delivery. It's like saying it's a huge advantage for strikers in the goal scoring stats.

In a better team Gross would have a huge number of assists and goals by now I'd imagine.

Oh, I don't believe Gross was brought in to take free kicks and corners. The only thing I have to support my argument is that for like 10 weeks in a row, we went with short corners. In general, I think in any given team in EPL, there are at least 5 guys that can take a decent corner and I don't think Gross's corners are any more special than the next guys. Just my opinion. But I think he contributes in a lot of other ways especially defensively that are underappreciated by fans.
