Gripes about the stadium

WSU, just below the seagull.
Even if you think about Smellhurst with its multiple stations around it, you still have to walk a fair bit to get to the station and l will leave you with White Hart Lane where you have to talk the length of a post code to get to the station.

Eh? White Hart Lane Station is no more than 5 minutes from the ground. I assume you are on about Seven Sisters?

I would like to complain about packed trains coming to the stadium, so much so that it was the fourth train that I managed to board. Long queues to get in and out. Long queues to get food and when I got it, the Hot Dog was stone cold, overpriced beer and an atmosphere probably akin to Bolney Reserves on a wet Tuesday night. (Sorry Bolney but you are too close to Crawley)

This was the national stadium of Rugby Union, Twickenham and the beer was £5 a pint. It is supposed to be a top venue but was totally uninspiring for me.

Thank goodness I can soon get back to the Theatre of Flair with excellent transport links, a rather beautiful environment, quality food and drink at a nearly reasonable price and all with an atmosphere.

Seagulls fans, we have never had it so good and a trip elsewhere would do you good to reset your expectations. Sure it's not always perfect but for me, the Amex is near nirvana. Thank you TB and the team.

I have seen England play at Twickers probably forty times.... 82 thousand every game.... never queued to get in.... beer drinking in your seat, ref link so you can hear the ref and the players near him.... national anthem sung by people who care about it, swing low booming out periodically, no segregation, loads of banter, ..... steady departures to any of four stations in walking distance,.... you haven't experienced atmosphere anywhere until you feel the tension and passion at England v Wales or England v Ireland.... its magic.

I suppose that Twickers does have three times the people that the AMEX holds but a bigger station. Yes we sang the national anthem and some spiritual song three times but it was boring and the atmosphere was flat. Give me Sussex by the Sea and the roar of any of the stands any day and WE don't need the Welsh or Irish to come and make the atmosphere, we can do it even if the opposition is Peterborough!

If the AMEX does get chosen for the Rugby World Cup, they will come away with lots of ideas to bring Twickenham up to an acceptable standard. It really shows just how far we have come!

Look, there is a world of difference between an Autumn friendly, and a Six Nations game believe me,...the Amex has a way to go before getting to that level, but for its size it is has good acoustics when we get enthusiastic enough to sing anything other than Wailbion.

Never had it so good? Walk up pay on the gate 15p great atmo! 34,000 rochdale on a tuesday night! a knees up on the pitch afterwards, yep brum at home was loads better:facepalm: don't tell people how grateful they should be,we are putting are hands in our pockets and have been for decades, yeah thanks tb but i sure he has enough arse lickers within the club:blush:

I loved the Goldstone....at the time.....but it wasn't that good.

Pay on the gate....hmmmmmmmm. This meant standing in a queue forever while those in front rummaged through their pockets searching for coins, waiting for change.....then squeezing yourself through a 30 cm entrance...only to have to do battle with the antiquated turnstiles.

Once in the ground you could visit the toilet and engulf yourself in the stench of urine.

If it rained.....and you were in the 'chicken run' you could all huddle up, have a group hug.....but unless you were six feet tall......you weren't going to see much football.

34,000....hmmmmmm...was at that game.....must have seen less than half of it. Everytime the ball was in the corner areas.....everyone leaning forwards.....meant you didn't see anything. You had to wait until the ball was in the middle of the pitch to start viewing again.

As for food and drinks.....did they sell anything in those days....? I certainly dont recall queueing for refreshments.

Oh....and as for 'standing'......hmmmmm......the reality was that there were yellow lines down the stairs in the 'stands'.......and God help you if you encroached upon them. Police were on you like flies around s**t. .....and they really didn't give a toss that there pointy helmets in front of you were seriously obstructing your already limited view.

Yes....SOME great times at the Goldstone......but in all honesty....nowadays, I wouldn't cross the road to watch the Albion with those facilities.

Thankyou TB.....and all those who have helped us move on, into the 21st Century.
