[News] Greta 1 v 0 Tate

This Tate guy sounds like a completely cock, but it is people like Julia Hartley Brewers and their selfish view of the world that are the real danger. Telling us driving diesel cars is OK, that climate change is nothing to worry about, that Brexit will be great, that the Tories will always be great and Labour will always be shit.

There's a cigarette paper's width between her views and the universally vilified Katie Hopkins. Brewer needs to get a lot of shit for this.
JHB's first tweet was a hate crime, ie mocking GT for being autistic. She realised she had crossed the line, deleted it, but not before many people had screenshotted it.
I would love to see some of these so-called journalists actually be arrested and charged for their hate tweets.

Yes, that’s a good point. A different set of problems although the problems you describe are still happening and in many ways accentuated by the internet. My fears are for the sexualisation of kids and the way they see the opposite sex as something to be used. I see the consequences when I have to break up classroom fights in afternoon lessons and the cause is invariably something toxic to do with sex. Long term damage is being done to kids’ ability to have relationships because of the way they view the opposite sex. This applies to both girls and boys. By the way a lot of the fights are between girls.
That is down to parents and parental control on youngsters use of the internet. A teacher sent a letter out to parents warning them that primary school children were watching Tate's TikTok videos.

She wouldn't know what his characteristics are but she is showing him up for his attitudes. Don't tell me you've never called a boastful driver with big cars someone with a small member? If so, it's very surprising. I've heard men say it many times.
Indeed, I drive a Fiat 500 by the way.

Still have a tiny penis, just trying reverse psychology.

Reverse it to talking about "small tit women" or something and it would definitely be labelled sexist tbh.
Maybe, maybe not but it’s irrelevant as I’m not talking about this. I’m talking about a very specific situation and a very specific context and I think the metaphor Greta used is fine.

You cant just substitute words like this e.g. Black Lives Matter and White Lives Matter have very different meanings and context.

Most boring line out there, every generation says the one after them is worse, just be a bit more opened minded to change and you might not be so miserable and fearful of doom.

I think that's a lie.

We were taught respect is earned and not given. Today's generation seem to think they should be instantly granted it.

I'm not fearful at all.

I'm Gen X, we grew up with the threat of a nuclear holocaust a real possibility thanks to the cold war.

We're the generation that thought we'd not make it to adulthood anyway if someone pushed the button so we grew up not giving a f***.

Today's generations are soft arse sooks.

How are parents supposed to control their children’s use of the internet ? Part of the problem is that isn’t actually possible. I have professional knowledge of some awful things which weren’t stopped by removal of phones because phones are accessed from friends at school. Blaming parents misses the point completely. One little anecdote for you from the last few days. We went shopping in Birkenhead on Wednesday. On the corner of the pedestrian area were a large gang of kids of ages about 8 to 16. The kind of group you give a wide berth to. There is nothing the parents of the young ones can do in a tough area. I doubt their internet use is controlled.

It's not a lie, it's an opinion. There's plenty of reprobates in every generation, just because they've been highlighted to you in this one doesn't mean its everyone. One push of Putin's button as we're all dead, but of course the button back in the previous generation was bigger and scarier, every thing you did was MUCH harder.

Misogyny is alive and well and thriving. Not all women are as empowered as you say.
I agree not all women are empowered but domestic violence is now something women can escape from and that's only in the last 50 years. Before that, women were beaten up regularly, the police wouldn't attend and women couldn't divorce or even leave the situation. The pill, and divorce laws have eased that problem for many women.
The world is aware of situations like Iran, and publishing the names of women arrested and under death warrant, helps to prevent the death penalty being carried out (see Amnesty) Iran doesn't like its sadistic regime being tweeted around the world.

Maybe schools should be more proactive in preventing bullying on school premises, but that's another debate.

The issue is, there isn't much to respect from the elders these days.

Well they are still far in front of the latest generations.

You only have to look at the humble task of volunteering.

No great surprise that something previous generations did in decent numbers is now in a rapid decline among those newer generations.

Of course everything was much harder in every generation that went before.

It's called technology der. You know, makes life easier.

My children grew up near a tough area and went to the same school as those from that area. They were never allowed to run the streets. I agreed with them that they could go out, as long as they were going somewhere, not just out. I also wanted to know roughly when they would be home. It was mutual respect because we did exactly the same with them. I told them where I was going and when I expected to be home. Just a small example but it worked. Neither of them ever got into trouble.

How long is it since you were at school ?
10 years ago, my brother only left 2 years ago and my cousins are in school now. The internet is definitely impactful on this generation than previous, in good ways and bad. But I find that more younger men are more respectful to women than the previous generation, the sexism may be in a more upfront childish way, but the underlying ability to speak out and the roots in which it came from are far better than those previously.

Technology doesn't change attitudes. It makes physical work easier.
