You cannot have the words "great" and "snooker player" adjacent to each other in the same sentence.

It's a crap passtime, up there with darts, fishing and anything to do with horses. They should all be banned because of the danger that they will bore large numbers of people to death ... participants and spectators!

Crowborough
I remember watching Alex Higgins V Dennis Taylor in an exhibition match in Tunbridge Wells.

At the interval I went to the bar & was bought a beer by a very blurry-eyed & bladdered Jimmy White.

:drink:

Statistically it must be Hendry

I don't see that statistics come into it. Hendry was the best at the time, but the consistant quality of snooker being played by O'Sullivan far exceeds that of any known World Ranking player past or present. Steve Davis said as much last night, and I've not heard any professional snooker player disagree.

Joe Davies for me. Okay he might not have one all the tournament that Hendry has, but that is because they did not have them back then. He dominated the game of snooker and billiards for 15 years.

Though it all depends on your defenition of the word "greatest".

I don't know if O'Sullivan is the greatest player - yet - based on the usual definition of titles won.

But that was certainly the greatest snooker I've ever seen last night.

His breaks, in the 10 frames that he won yesterday, were 95, 107, 58, 97, 102, 79, 75, 79, 79, 134.

Higgins said it all - "Total genius".

Hendry, no contest. Ronnie can play "the best snooker ever" all he likes, but he won't be the best player ever until he wins at least a few more world championships. Obviously I prefer Ronnie, but he's not the greatest ever quite yet. Give him 5 years, then he will be.
