Just reading the Greatest World Cup Moments thread, what is your greatest goal.

Let's keep it to COMPETITIVE international matches.

Carlos Alberto for Brazil?
Van Basten v USSR
Maradona v England
Maradona v Belgium
Falcao v Italy

What about that Said Owairan for UAE v Belgium a few years back?

I'll go for Carlos Alberto. A masterclass in keep-ball football, movement and finishing.

In front of the PC
Owen against the Argies, just for the fact that even now people still refer to it as "that goal".

Van Basten's volley against the USSR.

An England favourite would be Platt from Gascoigne's free kick. Last minute against Belgium - Italia '90 I think ?

I would have thought for skill the Maradonna goal against England was the best, closely followed by the same effort against Belgium.

Soctrates goal for Brazil against Russia.............Falcao's goal in the match against Italy in the same tournement

Bryan Robson's goal against France which was scored after 20odd seconds was a sublime bit of skill

Owen's against Argentina?

Bergkamp's against Argentina?

These were my two favourites at France 98.

I also enjoyed Roger Miller's against Argentina.

These were all against the Argies - a connection? No, just coincidence :lolol:

Shearers goal against Holland in the 4-1 thrashing was a joy to behold.

Free-flowing football with Gazza on song, one of the most enjoyable England matches I've ever seen!

I've always thought that Baggio goal was a bit overrated. The defenders just backed off and backed off and allowed him to walk into their area!

Same with the Maradona goal in '86. No one bothered to challenge him.

Not quite true. Maradona won the ball when 2 England players were favourites to it - then brushed off chimp-man Reid as if he wasn't there. Fenwick and Butcher both tried to usher him away from goal when in hindsight they would have been better getting a foot in. What impressed me about that goal weas the way the ball stuck to Maradon's feet - genius.

That is my favourite goal especially when you see the ball boy/ photographer ? who was about four or five metres from the goal ducking because he thought it was going to hit him and then it bent like a
