Madness had a couple of great early singles and a couple of decent later ones, but a whole stash of pap in between. Baggy Trousers still makes me want to cut off my ears.

Being the 'most 80s' doesn't make them the BEST band from that decade, though. Great, though they were.

Terrific songbook though, but for me personally, New Order have endured better.

Depeche Mode made some truly great singles, they really did, but some of the rest of guff they had on their albums was barely listenable.

You have to also remember that 'Violator' (my favourite) with 'Enjoy the Silence', 'Personal Jesus', 'World in My Eyes' is 1990 so perhaps shouldn't be considered as relevant to this contest...
