1-1 away to the World Champions Italy

Fantastic result and you must wonder how Trapattoni feels at the moment

Should have won it really! All over them (albeit 10 men) for 80 minutes and missed some golden chances. But I will take that. Italy were seriously unimpressive though.

I would imagine Trap feels the same as Charlton did when he beat the English!

The headline in Gazzetta dello Sport explains everything ...

Lippi trova il colpevole ... "Ecco gli arbitri stranieri"

Lippi finds who's to blame ... "It's foreign referees".

Didn't anyone tell him that's how international matches work?

Northern Ireland are going great at the moment, although I think Poland and the Czech's will probably be first and second in their group.

Would love it if NI, ROI and Scotland were all at the World Cup.

I don't normally care about how Ireland do, but pleased they managed to peg Italy back on their own turf.

Never a red card, though!

NI have got Poland as their next game in September, win that, I think they may have qualified.

Although Slovenia's next 2 games is San Marino, home and away, so thats 6 points there.

And just seen Argentina lost 6-1 to Bolivia last night

We really needed a result last night as Bulgaria beat Cyprus. Not many teams are going to take anything away in Italy, so I'm pleased with the point

Can't afford any slip ups now as Bulgaria are only 5 points behind us

Did you manage to watch the game live ?

isn't that something to do with the ridiculous altitude though? 3500m off sea level I think.

Slovakia are the team in the pound seat in N Ireland's group, they are 1 point behind N Ireland with 2 games in hand.

N Ireland have got Poland and Czech away and Slovakia at home. N Ireland stilll have a few more points to get.

Wales need to do a couple of things I think.

Firstly, they need to be scouring the British Isles for players with Welsh heritage - a bit like ROI in the 90s. It really doesn't matter how Welsh they are, they just need players proud enough to pull on the red jersey IMO.

Secondly, ditch their "star" players. These players invariably won't play for their country for friendlies or indeed some qualifiers, so why bother picking them? The Wales management need to remember that soccerball is a *team* game and you can be an effective, competitive unit with discipline and energy and without star players. Your star players could arguably be invited if they do actually qualify one day, providing the addition of these players outweighs the affect on team morale of excluding the 3 or 4 journeymen who will be affected.
