Mexico City is a shithole though. Walking around Mexico City you'll probably spot people who do match the description given on Top Gear.

Mexico suffers from the same problems of most South American countries along with the Philippines, rampant corruption. There's someting else they have in common as well, guess what it is ?

Just my perspective, but all three of the TG blokes have spent large amounts of time in America, especially in the Southern states along the US/Mexican border. Now, anyone that has spent more than five minutes in the US would understand quite how hard the Mexican (or any Central/Southern American national) works.

The Hispanic population over here make the place work, the BBC owned US "Top Gear" show even employs dozens of Mexican natives to make the show, those three know this, the whole rehearsed segment was purely a weak attempt at comedy that would cause a stir in the media and draw attention to the program. They need viewers, and as bad press creates coverage, this latest event puts the show back in the headlines.

Funny, probably not (perhaps to those who have no idea of Mexico, its people or their food), offensive obviously yes. But no different from telling the "Englishman, Scotsman and Irishman" jokes really.

Who lost out here, those three. If you do not like them, do not watch the show. I can/could not stand Manning, Davidson and Chubby Brown, so I do not watch them. Not rocket science really.

Peter Hook said of Coogan, when the latI've heard said about the man.ter played the part of (Sir) Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People 'Manchester's biggest cvnt played by Manchester's second biggest cvnt', and he was about right.

Never met Coogan but the above quote is similar to far too many others I've heard about him.

So if Channel 5 (owner, pornographer Desmond Morris) commissioned a new chat show hosted by Nick Griffin, and featuring special guests such as Geert Wilders, Pastor Terry Jones and David Irving was on TV, and it promoted a whites only agenda and revisionism of the holocaust's existence, you would defend it's right (geddit) to exist on the grounds of you can always switch it off?

Anyone for a 'Love They Neighbour' DVD box set evening anyone? No niggers allowed of course.

Nothing like a balanced comparison is there. Like i say comedians say stuff just as cheeky and worse than that on TV, my point is, it is because it is the media's favourite witch hunt that it gets blown up. As for Coogan himself what a self righteous cock. Comparing Top Gear with your TV show concept is rather over the top though

Poor old Desmond Morris, the famous zoologist and anthropologist, author of "The Naked Ape". I'll bet he never thought he'd get mixed up with Richard Desmond, well-known pornographer and owner of the Daily Express and Daily Star.

Whoops, I was too busy foaming at the mouth with liberal indignation to check my thoughts, apologies to the good doctor, I would HATE to be mistaken for Dirty Dick.

I have been harassed by more beggars/homeless people in Kings Cross - Sydney, Central London/Brighton and many more "civilized" major cities around the world than Mexico City. No geographical difference really when stepping over a desperate person who needs the funds for food, drugs, booze or whatever their requirement.

However on this one I'm with Coogan.

I don't disagree with either of those views but in the interests of balance, everyone I know from Manchester reckons Peter Hook out-trumps them both in the ***t stakes.

Is it, I genuinely think that there are programs that the critics love to bash even more.

I thought it was a well written piece, even if you don't agree with the content as least some thought went into it.

Comparing Top Gear with your TV show concept is rather over the top though

If it does come off I want a production credit!

True, my own encounters with Hookie would support that, and I'm a massive JD and NO fan.

But we are talking about Top Gear though, not other shows. I could quote 101 things that are said on TV every week that could be considered inflammatory but it is Hammond/Clarkson/May so because it has lost it's status a little people are moaning about it.

You are clearly wrong El Pres and you love me for pointing it out:whistle:

I'm not bagging Mexico the nation, many brilliant places to visit in other regions(especially where there are indigenous populations). But Mexico city is a smog ridden, violent dive.

Unfortunately it is spreading over the nation, Ciudad Juarez being now recognised as the worlds most violent city.

It's not about beggars, it's about something more sinister than that.
