Fair play to the fella, I'd have written 'f**k all of you'.

Absolutely no need to apologize, pretty freakin shameful from the Arsenal fans.

Going by Arsenal forums, it’s true. After losses, some Arsenal fans have piled in on Twitter to wish ill to his family. The internet is tailor-made for the dregs of society.

I hate Twitter and Facebook never done it, never will.
Also Instagram and Snapchat causes real problems for kids.
Those Arsenal fans should be totally ashamed of themselves.
Granit has had his poor games but also some very good ones too
No wonder he is off form with those idiots on his back.

In a way, it’s nice being off the radar, being a ‘smaller’ club .... perhaps we attract a lower proportion of spiteful loons, unable to stomach a defeat without resorting to that crap.

Agree about kids, for various reasons. Not least because of the addiction, he have to virtually prize the iphone from our daughter’s hands.

Got to wonder if Granit is reporting these individuals to the club and what Arsenal are doing about it?

I'd like to think Mr Barber would be locating and banning (despite them probably never setting foot in the AMEX) such knuckled dragging no necked rodney's.

As an 'it was only bantz but I don't want to go into detail' thread appears here.
Nothing finer than the anti Barber brigade weigh in.
Then running a mile when the actual details emerge.

Only to rinse and repeat.

Well, this was issued after the same kind of people who invariably give it the big 'un about looking after mental health (when it's convenient for their image) gave him and Emery abuse for suggesting he wouldn't be apologising and was upset after the game. He shouldn't have reacted as he did and has acted questionably pretty much throughout this season but he has had a deluge of this poisonous crap.

Bit unfair on Arsenal fans.

Every club has its fair share of twats, especially online.

If you think the Albion doesn't have them too... you're wrong.

That all said, no idea why footballer's use social media if they aren't able to cope with the abuse they will get. Not saying the abuse is acceptable, it's just the nature of the anonymous online world. I know I would stay away if I were famous.

Well, the thing about NSC is it is curated. The moderators do a brilliant job. It wasn't like that 20 years ago. I have seen bits and bobs of other forums and they are not all curated well (or at all) and it reads like a load of coked-up market traders guffawing over porn and racism.

I'd also like to think hell would long have frozen over before we at Brighton start booing off our captain for having a bit of a shit few games. Our ground is about the right size for us. Arsenal's is too big for them. Unlike Liverpool, Arsenal have too many tourists and too much ticket renting (I have been there on a ticket still in the name of someone who died several years ago). Once the nobbers reach critical mass they get emboldened.

And as others have said, we are too small to have a significant number of armchair supporters who spend hundreds of times more hours gobbing off online than actually attending games. Apart from Droopy Rectum, obviously.

I read on Arsenal forums this week that the amazing success under the first ten Wenger years, has made them feel entitled. It wasn’t said arrogantly, some recognised it. Making all the setbacks since, no matter how minor in the big picture, a huge body blow. Giving rise to the abuse of Wenger, Mustafi, Ozil, Xhaka, etc, etc, by some disrespectful and belligerent ‘supporters’.

Maybe.

But Liverpool have had far more success than Arsenal, and I couldn't imagine in my worst nightmares Liverpool supporters targeting one of their own players like the Arse plastics have done. Does Liverpool attract fewer plastic fans than Arsenal I wonder? Hmmmm.....probably it is just another example of statistical clustering, and the effects of positive feedback and thresholding.

I sometimes wonder what would happen to all the nice people getting of the trains from Kent and Sussex at Victoria if someone shouted 'Fire' one morning. People would possibly be trampled to death with little by-your-leave, possibly. Maybe not.....maybe the threshold is higher - man with gun shouting 'god is great' maybe?

Perhaps Liverpool fans got used to the end of the golden era in a pre internet age, so by the time Twatter came along, they were accustomed to up and downs? Just a thought.

I suspect you’re right that non-life long supporters would be more likely to hate some of their own players.

True about selfishness in stampedes. In all the recent air liner emergency vacations (people dying and/or breathing in toxic fumes), passengers at the exiting end, take time to get all their cabin cases etc, despite the air crew screaming not to do that.

Personally, I suspect that a lot of the online abuse - especially the racist and homophobic stuff, comes from the Premier League clubs' huge armies of overseas followers - often in less than enlightened nations.

Death threats and wishing cancer on kids? What is wrong with these people.

Lowest of the low.

Summed up perfectly.

Xhaka had no need to apologise. He was upset, very upset. There comes a point when everything hurtful that people have done or said comes to a boiling point. Social Media is becoming more and more venomous - I'd have to be six feet under before I opened a Twitter or Instagram account!

The only other option as I saw it was to refuse to apologise and possibly be frozen out until January by the manager where he'd join a decent European side.

Hopefully this saga is now finished and Arsenal 'fans' learn their lesson. I'm not holding my breath though........

I can remember back in the day (pre social media of course) our very own Johnny Crumplin regularly getting dogs abuse from large sections of the crowd every week. Then he played a couple of blinders in the Cup against John Barnes in his Liverpool pomp, and the legend of JCFG was born. The fans did a full 180 on Crumps, he got his own chant, t-shirts were printed, and he became one of the best-loved players of the Goldstone era, even if it was with a slightly indulgent sense of irony.

Maybe Xhaka just needs to put in a legendary performance to win those fans round - although I fear the overwhelming sense of entitlement at the Emirates would make that very difficult.
