Cheers gents. I'm off to see the health care centre people shortly (having been told to go there by my GP surgery, who I was directed to after doing 111 online. I have a book, and iPOD and some water. What did Captain Oats say?
Just to add that in the Spring the nurse practitioner tutted about allopurinol and put me on colchicine. I was surprised as my understanding is allopurinol has few adverse effects whereas colchicine is nasty.

Months later I got a GP appointment and that was a mess because I should have had blood and urine done in advance and they forgot to book it. So a month later with the blood done I saw another nurse practitioner who, lo and behold, tutted at colchicine and suggested I should have been on allopurinol. But.....not till I'd had a urine test.

That was 2 weeks ago and I'm still whistling in the wind, with a grumbly (but not florid) to that is being calmed by occasional colchicine, waiting for an update.

Got my first attack in over a year or so the other day - not unexpected - been a month or so of poor sleep, high stress, bad eating, lots of salt, etc, all conditions ripe for a BOUT o' GOUT.

What was unexpected was the location - on top of the foot, in the metatatatarsal bones area. Anyone else had this one?

Given we are now in the season of binge eating and boozing it's ever more important to drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins.

I've been gout-free for 8 months but the danger zone beckons.

I got a nasty bout of gout over the summer. Forced me to miss Ipswich home game. Cleared up just enough for me to make my holiday in Minorca, tho it was touch and go at the time. First thing I did when I got there (after having a beer) was seek out the local chemist and stock up on the strongest naproxen they, er, stocked. Which wonderfully was 660mg which is oretty much the maximum they're allowed to sell without prescription. One pill lasts 24 hours. Pack cost €5. Result!
