Probably a stupid question but what do you do with a live rat then if you're not allowed to release it ? Are we really expected to kill it ?

You probably have to go through a council run process of applying to kill it, having it surveyed, filling out some forms, filling out some more forms, paying a fee, then having to pay for health and safety to come round, buying some totally excessive protective gear, and... by the time you've jumped through all the hoops, the rat will have died of old age, or boredom.

Bend at the knees. Etc....

Get a jack russell.Job done

Theoretically ... the correct answer. But a Jack Russell like ours is such a lazy git that he would be unlikely to catch or kill any rats. Rats are, however, reasonably intelligent and they might well disappear somewhere else, once they realise there is a dog around the place.

Well, the rat box and bait are now in position, just inside the shed it ran into last night. Will check the food situation, in the box, in a couple of days.

Will take it from there!!!

Have you found out what food source it has been after??? if a neighbour is feeding the birds, then perhaps the rat should be given as a present to the guilty neighbour. I find it unbelievable how people just hang bird feeders until saturation point all around their gardens our neighbour has 12 hanging from one small tree. #clueless.
