So can a male steward search a female fan? I still find it strange that opposite sex body searches/pat downs are allowed.

They're not and that's why the OP's post seems unlikely to be true.

I very much doubt if this will result in a 2 year ban, but I'm struggling to have much sympathy with the OP.

What are you trying to achieve ? You alluded your bag had been searched on 5 previous occasions for evening games - they're hardly likely to clock you mincing up to the turnstile, remember the 5 previous occassions, and think "meh, this guys only ever got a laptop, a cagoul, a piece of fruit and the Radio Times in there...in you go pal". A cursory bag search is just such a standard, mundane piece of officialdom it barely warrants registering, let alone climbing up onto a soapbox for. It takes less than 10 seconds.

An utterly pointless and futile exercise which ended up spoiling your evening. I hope the club is sensible about this and at worse just bores you into submission by reiterating the search policy, but in the cold light of day, surely you must feel a bit daft now to have kicked off about it.

Very much this. OBVIOUSLY.
Bigbelly, just show a bit of humility, be a bit humble, recognise that your initial behaviour was a bit daft, and point at the stresses you have in your life that might explain why you behaved as you did, and any sane person would surely let it go. Unless of course there is something you're not telling us...

If everything happened the way you said it did, then you have definitely been very hard done by. Yes, some of the comments saying you were an idiot and brought it on yourself are correct, but a 2 year ban FFS? Ridiculous. Has it really come to that, where a bit of banter with the stewards, albeit I'll advised, leads to someone being banned from the club that they've supported since they were a kid for TWO YEARS? What has the world come to?

For all those defending the stewards, they don't have to do that job, they aren't forced to do it, and they certainly don't have to do it in the way that some of them do. If, and yes it is a big if, this all happened as Bigbelly said it did, then it just goes to show what nasty, vindictive and petty individuals SOME of the stewards are.

If everything happened the way he said it did he got exactly what he deserved. Stupid inappropriate comments and not knowing when to put a cork in it. His stupidity cost him seeing probably the best Vicente performance in and Albion shirt. His arrogance and stupidity could prevent him seeing the next one! Whether you have supported the club for one year or since you were conceived if you act like a dick then the punishment is the same. As for your attack on the stewards, personally have never had a problem. Also, maybe, with the scarcity of jobs, this is what then need to do to earn money to put food on the table of their family. Maybe they can't pick and chose or are you suggesting they should take the moral high ground and claim the dole!!!!

I am with BigBelly here, yes I am sure that he might have kept quiet and walked in without offering his view, but for crying out loud he is a fully functioning adult.

If anyone wishes to invade your private space and belongings, then there should be good reason.

Quite frankly it is a cursory offering of security, one that is unlikely to foil some evil plot, so for any adult with some level of intelligent to at times question the idiocy of it all, is always likely.

The paying customer deserves some level of respect and the service provider, in this case the stewards, should be questioned reasonably if their actions seem unreasonable, this should be expected.

I have never had a problem with stewards, I have found them helpful and courteous, but if I felt their actions were unnecessary or obstructive I feel I should be free to reasonably express my view without threat of sanctions.

Quite clearly he isn't a fully functioning adult as he didn't know when to shut up. A quick search of the bag and he would be away but probably thought he would show off.

and how exactly did you think it improved the security and your enjoyment of the game ???

Improved the enjoyment for some because they didn't have drink dick sitting next to them!!!!

Can the club afford to ban him? he buys a lot of pies.

You need to read other threads. Of course they can afford to ban him as it will allow all those that complain of not getting a pie to actually have one!!!!!

This is the point though, it seems a pointless exercise.

I have never failed to have a nice steward check my wifes bag and after a cursory glance at her nail clippers, keys, various perfume bottles always waved through whilst I walk through unstopped in the first instance.

It really doesnt bother me and I do not make an issue, but I never fail to acknowledge the absurdity of it all.

How on earth can you justify it as a pointless exercise? Yes, the likelihood of someone having possession of a dangerous item is pretty low but that is the same as an airport. Football is renowned for having stupid individuals so checking everyone's bag, regardless of whether they are a 90 year old or 19 year old, is worth it if its going to eliminate the 0.00001%.

Harsh, but ultimately fair.

Grovelling apology, citing extenuating circumstances seems the only way to go. My advice to BigGully would be to go see the club, and be very humble and apologetic. Accusing them of being heavy-handed is highly unlikely to help your cause.

All of this.

In spirit I am with BigBelly in that the stewards are heavy handed. But then that's what you get in the North Stand. Don't give them reason to be. Your bag will get searched at most grounds in England. In 1901 you can walk in with anything and they don't search you, but that's football these days.

I know you have a lot going on in your life and perhaps football is an escape from that, like for many of us it's 90 minutes without the toil of the real world and some of the bad things in life. But that is also why you need to make sure you can still go. It's a big part of your life and you don't want to lose it.

Go to the club one morning, be humble, apologetic, write a note to the steward in question apologising for what you said, and just accept that you went overboard.

I am pretty sure that that will mean you won't be on an extended ban. I'll even offer to come with you and explain (confirm) some of the stuff you have to deal with at the moment if you think it will help to have someone else there to control the situation and avoid it becoming another he said she said argument.

Time to eat a bit of humble pie for the greater good of still watching the stripes.

Hope all is well with you otherwise though.

I have no sympathy for you whatsoever, if they wanted to check your Bag which you said they have done on regular occasions with no hassle. Why last night did you proceed on making a ridiculous comment to an Female Steward?! I think the Female Steward was in the right, in ejecting you from the Amex, because the comment was indeed Sexual Discrimination.

I'm afraid, you don't have a case here and are looking at a two year ban. But go ahead fight it, can't see you winning though.

Apologise, apologise & apologise again. Write a letter to the steward in question groveling about how you over reacted. Get on your knees and lick arse. Stay off the beer before going to see the club in person.

Baloney.

Where is the slightest bit of evidence that Islamic or Dissident Republican terrorists, or anyone else wanting to harm people at an event, would have the slightest bit of interest in a Championship football game?

It's more to do with football related violence than to do with terrorism.

I don't want to take the piss, because if you lose a season ticket for 2 years that's pretty shit for you.
next minute (40 minutes later) I had 4 stewards around me and got asked by the female steward that I need a word about earlier comments, I said that was 40 minutes ago so what has changed?

She said - Lets just go outside and talk, I said you must think I'm stupid as I know I'm not coming back in
You were clearly being quite silly as you went in to the Amex, but when they came to you later you knew it was worse, and that was a pretty huge signal to make sure you were polite etc. You should have just co-operated and said you were sorry she took offence, you weren't trying to be offensive, you just thought it odd they only checked bags etc etc, blah blah blah, polite polite polite..
I asked the stewards what (female steward) point she wanted to to make regarding my earlier comment but we didn't get to that, It was me arguing about right or wrongs, what can or can't be said.
WTF - you're still arguing at this point. How was that going to help?

I think you need to write an apology. Put your side across, nicely - ie, you're a model fan, never cause the stewards any issues, you just thought it odd that it's only the bags that are searched and made a comment which may have offended one of the stewards, for which you apologise.

It's Valentine's Day tomorrow, phone up the club and offer to take the steward bint for an all you can eat buffet at Pizza Hut. She's a steward so they'll think that's dead classy.

A few rudimentary compliments about how she retains her feminity despite looking like she buys all her clothes from Millets and she'll be putty in your hands. She'll be over the moon at the thought of some cock but a word of warning, if you're after a bit of backdoor action make sure she stays away from the sweet corn salad.

I went to the game last night straight from work so I had a bag.
Steward: Can i have a quick look in your bag please?
Me: Yes (opens bag for steward to look inside)
Steward: (looks inside bag) Thanks.
I enter the ground and enjoy the game

It's really not that tricky is it

Given your name, location comment and avatar I would have thought someone suggesting they might have a big weapon in their pants would be right up your street!?!

If there was any intel we would be the last to know as supporters. Had Bigbelly been a Luton/Millwall fan and this incident occurred in a few days time at Kenilworth Road his behaviour would have been rewarded with a full body search #latexgloves

Just to clarify female stewards can search both male and female supporters, however male stewards can only search male supporters.
In that way the OPs post is true.

Fair enough - that never used to be the case and I find it rather bizarre that they can now.

Still think the OP isn't telling the truth ( or at least the whole truth ).
