Gordon Greer Appreciation

Just got back from the match, and I though our captain was awesome today. He was unbeatable in the air, was in the right place on every Charlton attack, was comfortable on the ball, and his distribution was exactly what we've been looking for.

I feel sorry for Tommy Elphick who had to step aside, but I've been saying that at the back Greer has been the player we've been missing. He had so much time on the ball, and wasn't afraid to dummy the Charlton players and walk the ball out, and sprayed some great passes about.

In fact, unlike recently we were rarely caught in the situation we've been in lately with the ball pinging around the back, as it seemed to get to the midfield so much quicker today.

Can I just add, we were awesome, and I've lost my voice :albion2::clap2:

Am I wrong to have sent this text?;

Greer 0-5 Cuthbert.

Cuthbert's the better defender apparently! :clap2:

1 mistake nearly lead to goal but a very encouraging first 90 minutes (i consider this to be his full debut for us!) for our Gordon. Do feel for Elphick but he will still have a huge part to play this season. Stength in depth with Dunk around too. Great stuff

Really, Swindon fans seem to think it's Morison who's better.

Yep, but when we snatched Greer, they were bigging up Cuthbert. Were you not on here when a thread from the Town End forums was posted on here, 100 reasons why Cuthbert is better than Greer.. or something like that. And all week we've been talking about Greer and Cuthbert, so it's very gratifying that today one of them led a defence to a clean sheet, and another saw 5 goals fly past them! I know it's not a fair comparison. I don't care.

He grew into the game and improved as it went on but to begin with he looked a little worrying. He seemed to have communication issues and then he left his man to meet a cross which he missed and the player he was marking slipped over but still managed to get up and head the ball! I was just commenting on this when we suddenly scored!

Greer then improved with each passing minute and was immense. I am guessing his performance in the opening moments of the match was due to being a little rusty!

Anyway, we cannot really moan after todays game!!!

First Time I have seen him this season and very impressed, he had a great hold on defence and also knew when to attack.

Hard situation isnt it as i think Greer was awesome today but he was also playing well vs Rochdale before his moment of madness.
I think Greer is a bit more experienced and has better vision, Elphick could well get to his level eventually and has been 1st class this season, very tough call by Poyet, i guess at weekend he will play Elphick again but who knows.
We have some great centre backs in El Abd, Greer, Elphick and Dunk.
I dont know how we can keep all of these players happy as all would walk into i think any team in league one.
But im delighted we got all of them and long may it continue.
