The only man on the planet stupid enough to TELL THE WORLD he was going to sell a lot of something so they could all offer less than they would otherwise. Cost us all billions. Numbskull

Well, there was not much else left to sell thanks to Maggies big sell offs and Major and Lamont propping up the Pound. remember that when you pay Gas/Leccy and Water bills and are paying those European shareholders a handsome dividend.

History will look favourably on him for first advising on a system to get the world's economy back on track and then saving the UK from being dismantled. A huge loss to UK politics.

Same as chamberlain would have been looked on favourably as staving of a European war if you are qualifying history as mere weeks.

Was caught on mike calling his core vote a bigot for voicing the concerns of working people whilst a labour prime minister of this country. far far worse than thatchers comments on society and a catalyst for what is happening now.

Saving the uk from being dismantled! Seriously? It's holed below the waterline thanks to the labour party's feed the kids haribo for breakfast approach to Scotland.

The Private Finance Initiative was introduced when Kenneth Clarke was chancellor, 5 years before Blair was in office. Labour continued the acceleration of the scheme which had started in 1996. Had Major won the 1997 election he would have done the same thing.

what may have happens in hypothetical alternative histories is beside the point (im sure they would have continued). the fact of the matter is under Browns stewardship they did occur, and the point is anyone having issues with dividends to shareholders in privatised companies must sit that alongside the dividends PFI provide. Thatcher and Major privatised, while Blair/Brown outsourced infrastructure.

Whereas the privatisation of Royal Mail secured a fantastic deal for the hardworking tax payer, at a time when domestic economy really needed it.

An extremely intelligent man and a great loss to politics.

I honestly believe if we hadn't had that ridiculous TV debate he might well have scrapped through his election defeat,
