Good work by the MP from Hove. I believe that you don't often get the chance to ask a question on PMQ so nice to see them putting it to good use. Although I seem to remember that the initial question is usually followed by a rather more challenging one on a different subject?

If that fecker Blair had still been in power he would have tried to suggest that he fondly recalls standing in the east stand when he was a boy and was there when tommy cook hit the winner against Aston Villa in the charity sheild play off final at the old goldstone ground !!!!

I have no time for Blair but that's based on an urban myth about a quote he never made.

He's still a lying git but he's not a glory-hunting lying git.

dont fall for it, they are prepared questions and answers. there's several such plants from loyal backbenchers each week.

Agreed. So let me see .... Labour government dead scared that they will loose the next election .... B&H with three Labour MPs who are quite likely to loose their seats .... I know lets congratulate the local football team ..... hmmmmm .... bandwagon jumping springs to mind !!!!!

Like him or not, I have heard his love for Raith Rovers is genuine - he goes to see them when he's up there. Supporting a team like that does make it more likely he'd know what what was going on in the lower leagues...

He's supposed to be quite affable away from politics, but seems quite inept in how to portray himself to the public.

Even the opposition submit their questions in advance so a reply can be seen as an instant riposte. The supplementary question normally has a researched answer too.

Its next goal of championship football is boosted by construction under way at Falmer Community stadium, which will eventually provide 66 apprenticeships, not mentioning those involved in building it. That is a stark contrast to Brighton and Hove city council—

Order. The Prime Minister will have an answer.

Gordon Brown (Prime Minister; Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath, Labour)

Let me, too, congratulate the Brighton team on its success; I think that the whole House will want to do so. I saw some of the photographs of the celebrations. I understand that Brighton has delivered nearly 4,000 Skills for Life achievements, and that is helping young people. I believe that the Learning and Skills Council has provided Brighton and Hove Albion's football in the community scheme with funding, and we will continue to support that. Football clubs that are at the centre of their communities are good for every community, and Brighton has proved exactly that. It brings not only community support but football success.

Now Browns got involved there will be a U Turn, the league will deduct us 10 points for the pitch invasion and we will be in league 2 next year.

You heard it here!!!!

God I hate that man more than anyone could have hated Thatcher.....

Indeed. I have no time at all for him, but (unlike so many MPs seeking to curry favour) he is a genuine football fan. And, yes, he does go to Raith Rovers games, although considerably less now he is PM (he's been at a couple of games I've been at).

Of course he would have congratulated Northampton Town if they had stayed up, if given the chance by a backbencher. So what? Having seen loads of relegations and promotions as a Raith Rovers fan, he knows what it means, and I am sure his congratulations (and probably commiserations for Crewe & Northampton fans) were genuine.

He's still an awful PM, mind. Not as bad as Cameron will prove to be if given the chance, of course, but shite all the same.

According to t:he Hove MP we are still in the First Division.

Nothing to do with a desperate attempt by the MP for Hove to get some votes and hang on to her marginal seat of course... And does the (Scottish) PM actually give a toss about Brighton and Hove? He probably only knows where it is because he had to attend the party conference.

Excuse my cynicism but as for "continuing to support" etc, isn't this the same Learning & Skills Council that has had to abort promised funding to several local Colleges because they have massively overspent in the last financial year?

Well, that is a lot of hate you have there... I hope it disperse sooner than the hatred caused by Thatcher.

Dont worry I am not one to harbour a grudge, it will be gone the day he gets booted out! History will then show that he was a more adept con man than anything the Beeb could put on the Hustle.:rant:
