Anyone managed to get one? Play store is constantly sold out, any heard about availability?

Yes. It's brilliant. Great screen and very sensitive. In fact a joy to use in that respect. That's the major plus to me. When you've used it - quite difficult to go back to something else.

However - gonna list a few bad points which are OS/software problems - essentially bugs. Which I hope get fixed in new releases or can be addresses by installing a different browser etc..

Bad Points:

No flash, unless with a bit of mucking about. I'm almost there with it - but gave up with the seagulls comm last night. Played but at ten times the correct speed !

Minimise button right below the space bar ! Incredibly easy to miminise a window when typing. Major annoyance actually.

No proper iplayer support at the moment (connected with the first problem...)

The design of some websites (forms in particular) mean the keyboard simply doesn't activate.

Overall - very glad we got it and the above are small problems.

That must have been quite interesting. Did you know the final score half an hour before the game had finished?

Even though the Nexus 10 has a higher DPI than the iPad? They really can get you to believe anything these days cant they.

I get exactly the same problem with Nexus 7. Commentary at a far faster speed. May try downloading a different browser as this was firefox beta.

Any one got a Google Nexus 7?

Yes, lovely bit of kit, and after initial scepticism the Mrs is now also a fan. Great for surfing the internet, watching videos (including iPlayer) and playing silly games.

I used Puffin Web Browser Free last night for the first time, and after a bit of a fiddle logging in (the main seagulls player page is very tablet-unfriendly!) it streamed the audio no problem. The only issue was that when the screen turned off the audio stopped - I assume because Android didn't know to keep running the software in the background. I've got Tasker so am assuming I'll be able to fix this though.

Any one got a Google Nexus 7?

I treated myself a couple of weeks ago, (by buying a Nexus 7 32GB I mean!)

On the whole I love it..it suits my purpose of being able to check email, surf the web, watch TV and read digital books, not a big gamer or
muisc aficionado.

A few negatives so far. I didn’t think the lack of a front facing camera would be an issue, but the kids love playing with the photo manipulation
Apps, but you can only take pictures of yourself. Think it may have been designed for use with Skype only.

Google play is very limited and doesn’t appear to have a fraction of the content available like the itunes store has, I previously used an iPod touch

TV Catchup & BBC iPlayer work very well…but ITV Player or Channel 4OD doesn’t appear to be supported, I have got an OTG cable to view files from a USB stick, but found out last that that windows media files aren’t supported

Without 3G, I am searching for ways to view content offline….BBC anywhere is OK, and you can download the daily Argus for the Albion news…

There are a couple of Apps, Pocket & Offline Browser, which enables you to save contact for viewing later.

Am new to Android, so takes a bit of getting used to

Got a great case, (which can also be used as a desk stand) & stylus from Amazon

I've got a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 on the new year which is excellent. As expected though I've hardly used it. Another folly that will be packing itself off to Ebay..

Without meaning to come across as too much of an Android evangelist, hope you don't mind me addressing a few of these points...

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The issue is that anyone trying to take serious photos with it is i) going to be disappointed by the quality and ii) look like a bit of an eejit. Presumably you could rig up an Android phone (if there is one in the household) to share photos direct to Dropbox (or Picasso, or similar) which would then immediately sync with the tablet if you wanted as a workaround (although I accept that it's a bit fiddly).

Google play is very limited and doesn’t appear to have a fraction of the content available like the itunes store has, I previously used an iPod touch

I think the general perception is that Google Play is behind (in app development and media availability) but is getting better rapidly. Which areas did you particularly note as lacking?

TV Catchup & BBC iPlayer work very well…but ITV Player or Channel 4OD doesn’t appear to be supported, I have got an OTG cable to view files from a USB stick, but found out last that that windows media files aren’t supported

This is a Flash issue (i.e. the lack of it on newer Android devices). As was the case with iPlayer, it will undoubtedly be solved in due course.

I have got an OTG cable to view files from a USB stick, but found out last that that windows media files aren’t supported

Surely this depends upon the media playing software you've got installed? I've been using MX player and Nexus Media Importer which has played everything I've thrown at it. Haven't tried windows media files though.

Without 3G, I am searching for ways to view content offline….BBC anywhere is OK, and you can download the daily Argus for the Albion news…

There are a couple of Apps, Pocket & Offline Browser, which enables you to save contact for viewing later.

Pocket is great (and you can use the Chrome extension to send things direct to it from desktop) - I've also got a couple of news aggregators which store at least part of the article off-line. I think the BBC news app does this, Pocket certainly does (and is my favourite out of these kinds of apps). Guardian anywhere downloads a copy of the paper at a designated time, although I think the primary Guardian app also now has this functionality. Between these and the Kindle app I always have plenty to read on the train...

I really like my Nexus 7, although I must say I do have the odd bout of slowdown and it's crashed a couple of times. Easily reset though by holding down the power key. No such problems with my Nexus 4, mind...
