I've 'unfollowed' EVERYONE I know on facebook so I don't see (and am not tempted to scroll zombie-like through) any of their shit. It's great. My 'feed' is completely empty. I only keep the account open like you to stay in touch with distant family & friends etc.

Unfollowing on Facebook is great. You are still friends with the person, so not hurting their feelings, but you don't see their posts.
There is also the star posters, so people like my son, daughter, etc are starred so I see their posts first.

To do so is underestimating the importance of the virtual relationships that some people attach to their engagement with NSC. As everyone knows NSC can offer a lot of emotional support when we are going through difficult periods in our lives. That support can sometimes be really helpful. As a lot of people may have noticed PF has had a lot of issues in his early life which he has had to deal with. He's sometimes unloaded some of his baggage on here and hopefully it has been helpful for him to do so.

Why is his saying goodbye on here interpreted any differently to saying goodbye in the real world to those you've formed connections with? If he had suddenly disappeared without telling anybody or without saying goodbye to people he had formed connections with in the real world those people would either think he was rude or they would worry about him. All PF was doing was saying goodbye and letting people know he's alright and thanks for everything. Nothing wrong with that. Given what some of us have become aware of of his history, if he had just suddenly disappeared it might have given some of us cause for concern. Now we don't need to worry.

Having said all that PF has said that he is going to use his time and try and engage more with the real world. Personally I'm a little concerned that the time he doesn't devote to NSC will just be spent more on his favourite porn sites.

PF's personal legacy to me was that he introduced me to the murky world of MILF Backward Cowgirl, a sub category of porn I was previously blissfully unaware of. Not much of a legacy granted, but a legacy nonetheless. So long PF.

I actually found it quite uncomfortable reading because it was obvious to me that something was wrong because the irrationality of your flounce was totally out of kilter with the rationality of your other posts. I remember a lot of posters started rounding on you which just aggravated things for you. I was surprised there was so little consideration for the possibility that something might not be right with you because your reaction seemed quite out of character. I can't remember if I watched your flounce unfold as it was happening or whether I read it after it had already occured.

Even though I've seen your name in recent posts I hadn't made the connection that you were the one who had that particular flounce until you referred to it. I'm glad to see your flounce was only a temporary reaction as it did make me feel a little uncomfortable. Sometimes the sensible thing to do is just look a little bit deeper, rather than just adopting a pack mentality and baying for cyber-blood. I used to get customers go batshit mental about the most trivial things - but after they'd calmed down it usually turned out they'd had a stinker of a day, week or month - or something bad had happened in their lives, and they took it all out on me or one of my employees over the phone. On an internet forum it can sometimes be a place where in the solitude of your own home or computer your emotions can bleed over a little. I'm not saying PBF has any personal issues as I have no idea, but it could be something to just think about. We're all 'big hard men' on the outside, but some of us can take knocks in our lives in different ways, and react in different ways too.

My own personal flounce was indeed like car going off a cliff. Ironically, it mirrored my life at the time perfectly. I won't bore you with the details, but I'd been lurking on NSC for ages - then joined and posted for at least some distraction from the world around me. It was a little 'escape' and a bit of a safe haven whilst every man and his dog was sticking the boot into me for the 60-70 hours a week I was working to try and save my business. Then, one comment tipped me over the edge. I felt very alone at the time, and that my few remaining 'friends' and allies had questioned my motives as to being on here. Cue the flip-out, and the flounce... No mental health issues or depression, just a knee jerk reaction in times of extreme stress in my life. Only a couple of people have referred to it (and I thought more people would) but being a realist it's most likely because no-one gives a shit. Fair do's, and thank you all.

It's up to you lot what you do and say when someone posts something like the OP did, but before you stick the boot in - just have a think first....

When the OP mentioned once the key event he’d change in his childhood if he could, similarly, I took a shine to his honesty and admired the way that as an adult he’d made sure he was a good bloke inspite of his particular ‘role model’. So respect to him for his OP here, I don’t blame him one bit from stepping back from the addiction of social media, wish him well, and would be glad to see him back here.

I never really get why people a) feel the need to announce they are leaving any form of social media or b) feel they need to say – with pride, apparently – how they have stopped using one form or another of it (Facebook, in most cases). It's hardly like kicking the booze or hard drugs.

Or maybe it is, to some people. Me? The moment I take it THAT seriously that it adversely affects my life to that point, I'll just slope off quietly into the wilderness. At the moment, it is what it is. Yeah, there's some stuff that I scroll past because I'm not interested, but the good outweighs the bad, IMO.
