4.55 for me. My IT Band knee pain kicked in after a mile so it was a real struggle and can hardly walk today. Met the CPFC chap and pleased he finished in under 5 hours which was his target at the time!

Not sure I'll do it again.

3:53 for me which I'm happy with

Jeez, it was hot. I couldn't get any water down my neck in the last 4 miles miles as I was feeling sick. I projectile vomited a load of powerade all over the bathroom when I got home. I won't be drinking any of that for a while I reckon.

Brilliant support out on the course

That is disgraceful. You are not that old at all. I would however like to apologise to the residents of Lewes Crescent as I had to relieve myself in one of their bushes. Quickest pee I have had in my life.

I had quite an incredible experience yesterday - not only did I complete it ['DONE a marathon; not RUN a marathon'] which was my only real goal, but to be given the streets of Brighton & Hove made me realise just what a beautiful city I'm from. The people who were there to support us - especially the ones that hung back for us 'stragglers' - made me realise just how damned decent the human race is.

My genuinely fondest memory of the day will be the old 'gentleman of the street' at the top of St James Street who said to me 'Run, you old c*nt' as I went past; he reminded me so much of me old man - it's exactly the sort of thing he would have said and gave me a real boost just thinking of him at that moment - it was almost like he'd come back for the day

Was that coming or going? [I'm 'ere all week]

ps - don't ever ask me to do anything again and no I'm not riding a bike over the SDW with you

now, to walk the thing over five days, well that's different . . . . .

Has he got a Just Giving page? No matter whether MS is a charity close to your heart, that kind of courage needs rewarding. He's got the heart of a f***ing lion and balls like oranges to take on the marathon and I wish him all the luck in the world.

Never saw this before, CC, thanks alot. yeah takes some doing. but his just giving page is Pete Boddy is fundraising for Multiple Sclerosis Society, Eastbourne South Wealden but i have started a thread on it anyway

Everyone that is prepared to run that distance has done an amazing job raising one hell of a lot of cash for charities

4.01 for me, I was absolutely delighted especially how I paced myself through the whole race without really fading at the end, I think I passed half way at about 1.57. I was so looking forward to fish and chips afterwards but I could barely eat a thing which was a bit gutting!

There was a tiny part of me thinking "shall I do it next year?" but I soon put that idea to bed when I remembered a 16 mile training run in the pissing rain blowing horizontally towards me and surely the weather isn't going to be like that 3 years in a row.

It was hotter on Sunday than in 2010. So fantastic effort from everyone who finished. Have they changed the route around the harbour or is it still desolate and uninspiring round there? Until you see the big yellow 21 sign!

I started my 2012 training yesterday so I hope to improve on my plus 5.45 from last year.

A bloke ran past us through the streets of Brighton about 10:30 last night with '4 Marathons in 24 Hours' on the back of his running shirt. I imagine he was running the route for the second or third time back-to-back and planning to set off again with everyone else for a fourth time this morning. Unbelievable.

I just had a look at the results to see if he managed it, as there was nothing on seagulls.co.uk.

He completed the fourth marathon in 4.33, which is damn impressive in that heat (33 minutes quicker than me ) and Mr. Bloom has just given him a very generous donation. Dan Lawson is fundraising for ALBION IN THE COMMUNITY

My first marathon too and delighted to have have got round in 5hrs 25mins and been able to raise some money for REMF. Just an amazing day, thanks to everyone for the "Seagulls" shouts all the way round and as someone else said it made me realise once again why we choose to live in this great place.

I was struck by how much awareness there was about REMF generally and lost count of the "come on that bloke running for REMF" type shouts I got - made a massive difference! Anyone here who knows me (or indeed doesn't) who'd like to help me get up nearer to my fundraising target please feel free to do what you can at

Michael Philpott is fundraising for Robert Eaton Memorial Fund

Thanks to Mendoza/Barry Izbak for posting the photos - I can rip these off now instead of having to pay for them on the marathon site  Looks like I'm the first marathon runner ever to put weight on during the race though....

This chap is Stewart Pierce, Financial Director at Parker Building Suppliers. He's 56 years old and finished in 4.48. A good effort considering he was suffering from a serious case of 'man flu'!!

Forgot to mention that in a major role reversal I spotted Marcus Painter and Adam El Abd watching the race at the King Alfred. Marcus gave me a little nod of encouragement as I ran past. It gave me a good boost - well, a boost that was enough to enable me to stumble along to the next bench to strech my bambi legs for the 30th time!!!

Brilliant run from your good self I thought.

I DO think you should do it again though, and crack 4:00.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the Brighton marathon. I think it's absolutely fabulous to be honest. For a start it seems to guarantee unseasonably SWELTERING weather, and I can't believe how quickly it's taken hold as a permanent fixture in the City calendar. I wonder if they'll increase the entry field next year? Also, I'd like to see them try and coax half a dozen elite runners sooner or later.

You mean those front runners were not elite....I need to lie down.

Fab day for the city

The race also needs to be officially recognised for Team GB qualification. The female winner won with a World Championship qualifying time but as the race is not recognised she cannot use her time.

The team behind Brighton Marathon seem very ambitous so I think official status and elite runners will come with time. Whilst it has been an amazing and instant success I feel at the moment they are still working some things out. I do not doubt this will eventually become the 2nd marathon after London though.
