Depends what you are into;

'Dreams from my Father' by Barack Obama is very interesting - I'm just finishing it at the moment and have enjoyed every page. In fact, I already have his second book 'the Audacity of Hope' ready to read straight after.

'FA Confidential' by David Davies is a very good book about his time in the FA. (it has about a page on Brighton's problems too!)

If you are into a bit of history, anything by Stephen E. Ambrose is good.

If you are into autobiographies, Gordon Ramsays is very good, as is Murray Walkers.

What's the betting BS doesn't take a single recommendation from this thread? ....although if he does we want photographic proof with BS in situ on the beach with the book/s in question.

Just read "Child 44" by Tom Rob Smith

Set in post-WW2 USSR, decent thriller, think you would enjoy it as it whips along and is an "easy" read

Absolutely fantastic read, as are all of his books

I thought it was awful and I really liked two of Harris's other books so I thught it would be top drawer. I found it cliche-ridden and all too obvious, the 'secret' was telegraphed well before it was revealed.

If you haven't read it yet then go for The Damned United. Just saw the film tonight but the book is far better.

As someone above said any of Peter James' Roy Grace books are great - I have the latest one to take on this year's holiday.
James Rollins is an extremely good writer - any of his books are good
If you like a fairly "quick" read James Patterson is pretty good although you'll finish most of his within a couple of days

Really? Each to their own I suppose. I found it genuinely gripping. I suppose that may be due to the fact that I do have a little bit of an obsession with Russian history. What did you think of Enigma? Strangely enough I found that to be hard going and a little boring, yet I loved Archangel and Fatherland.

Any of the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child
or the DI Tom Thorne books by Mark Billingham, start with 'Sleepyhead'
or 'Spider' by Michael Morley...

I liked Enigma although it did get a bit formulaic at times. The one of his that I really liked was Imperium - I thought that was a cracking read, as the cliché has it, I couldn't put it down. I've not read Fatherland yet so can't comment on that.

I'd definitely recommend it. It's set in a post-war Germany where the Nazis were victorious and are engaged in a 'Cold war' with the US. Cracking read. I haven't read Imperium, i'll have to give that a try.
