I think you could put Steve Marriott in the "what if" pile. You could argue that he was on his way out before he was sadly taken in a house fire, but with the Britpop resurgence shortly after, I think he would have found himself again & been a legend once more (same could be said for Ronnie Laine to a lesser degree IMO). That's if he was more Small Faces & less Humble Pie of course!!

Oh, & i agree with Otis Redding surely the top of the list in the "gone too early" stakes.

Metallica were riight on the verge of greatness and he played such a huge part in getting them there. I saw him perform 5 days before he died as well. Very sad.
