As a fan of The Stranglers until the late 1980s (by which time they had completely run out of ideas; Hugh Cornwell was right to quit the band), seeing them live 21 times, it really irked that their biggest hit was a slushy Radio 2-style song (in those days, Radio 2 played soft easy listening music for more mature listeners) that was so unlike the rest of their material.
Still, it made it amusing to go and see them on that particular tour (Brighton Centre, I think it was), full of people who had come to the gig on the basis of Golden Brown and being totally bewildered by all the much faster, lounder, punky material they played.
It always surprised me that they got away with being called The Stranglers. I wonder how many impressionable youngsters actually became throttling-type killers due to the irresponsible naming of the band?
