Are you being deliberately obtuse?

The discussion evolved from U23s over two GKs and Locadia.

I would have U23 players over a second goalkeeper on the bench (we had two Saturday Steele and Scherpen) and Locadia who I do not rate in the slightest..

Not sure I can be any clearer.

We only had 2 GKs and not other u23 subs on Saturday purely because I suspect Mwepu and Gross were isolated at last minute due to Covid and/or the late call on Connolly. One or both would have been in the squad if available so Potter's hand was probably forced.
The fact that the u23s had played on Friday night.as well (in front of Potter) perhaps denied him the chance to trial an extra player at Brentford or at least consider it.
Anyway 20 year old Scherpen has never been in a first team squad before so perhaps that played a part in including him alongside Steele.

Is he? Has anybody actually seen him? Not in any of the pre-season games, I don't think, and hasn't appeared anywhere near the U23s.

He's injured - but its not clear in any reports how long he's likely to be out although he was named in the 25 squad on Friday. He's not been in any training galleries and i'm not sure Potter has referenced him in any press conference etc. He's clearly in/around Brighton if his Instagram is anything to go by.

You are right, Lallana had a stinker.

Biss & Groß in the middle for me against Leicester.

Lallana can be a very good sub in that he analysis the game from the side and can take control for us in the latter stages of games.

Pascal should be nice and fresh for Sunday.
Biss and Moder for me!

Good spot! I still regard him as Brighton's forgotten* man though!

* forgotten - or invisible; I'm not sure which!

Perhaps, but with 9 subs as per my earlier point, there is something about giving them experience of being around the first team environment.

k

I agree with you. But i think Potter has a particularly good track record so its a bit odd to feel frustrated at sub #8 or 9 (see his use of Cups, # of u23s who get to train regularly with first team squad and his approach of giving u21s debuts in PL with limited experience - Connolly, Lamptey, Alzate, Richards, Sanchez, Moder, Molumby etc ) and i'm sure he'll continue to do more as season evolves including a more diverse bench - but then he still has a lot of experienced players to find a space for too. And jury is out with Locadia but Potter is unlikely to go with a Ferguson or Tolaj or Emmerson ahead of our part time DJ even as a sub back up. Its not surprising. And for now i agree with that too.

He does and I agree with your post and explanation, but think GP is wrong on this re Locadia and GKs.

Still great start, good results, U23s on fire, Ladies team flying. What’s not to like [emoji2]
