Have you been to Khao Sok?! I stayed on the floating bungalows there - amazing! Please take this advice and really think about it as it'll give you the most out of your time in the Gulf.
- Take a 1 or ideally 2 day boat trip around Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park. This is where 'The Beach' is written about and based. You can camp on a couple of the islands which is amazing.
- Take 2 days/nights and get the boat over to Koh Tao. This island is much more of a travelers island rather than a mass commercial center.
- Spend the night on Koh Phangan and go to a beach party. The beach parties are better away from full moon.
- If you have a spare 3 days, get to the mainland and get to the floating bungalows at Khao Sok National Park.
All of the above are very close to Samui and very easy and cheap to get to.
My final advice is to spend as little time on Samui as possible.
