My advice stay in central Hove near the sea and all the restaurants, much nicer and quieter than Brighton and not full of tourists or students like central Brighton.

If he’s looking for Bohemian I think he will be bitterly disappointed with that suggestion :lolol:

Caveat - Hove may have changed dramatically since I lived there...30 years ago

Falmer itself is tiny and a genteel village full of people who didn't want the stadium building.

Next to it is Moulscoombe which is, er, lovely and certainly full of students (ok it's an old school housing scheme with some dodgy characters, the accomodation there is cheap for a reason, but there are a lot of students there as its next to the two universities, however they will all be at home over Easter and the summer and you will be left with some large and interesting familes for company).

The most bohemian bits are in the City Centre but they are also the most expensive. Kemp Town is very arty but very, very gay. The centre and bits of Kemp Town will be where most of the action is however and where all the good pubs are. An Air BnB for two weeks should be doable but you'll want to do a lot of research before you find accomodation for a longer stay.

The further west you go the more families you will encounter. Mum, Dad, two kids, a shaggy dog, a vinyl record player and craft beer in the fridge in Hove, Mum, Mum, three uncontrollable kids and a fridge full of prosecco in Portslade.

The above is, of course, completely stereotypical but not completely untrue. Basically be careful staying near the ground as it's right out of town and does have some very dodgy parts.

**** me. The place has gone downhill since I grew up there. Or do I mean uphill? Or Easthill? ???

Very hard to tell these days.

It's probably more South Portslade but the demographic has been increasingly, er, swinging, towards full Hebden Bridge. *taps nose*

Maybe that famous couple of spongers, sorry 'alternative lifestyle gurus' could put him up for a few months. Don't have to worry about paying towards any rent (its already covered), and you might get a few yoga lessons chucked in. Win/Win.

The feral rugrats with ADHD will probably share their organic coco pops with mothers milk with him as well.
It just gets better for Swansman. His know it all attitude will go down a treat in that household.

I lived in Brighton for a year and whilst I found it a fairly interesting place to live I didn't find it very "Bohemian" not like you can find in Cities like Dresden or London's Camden area.

It's diversity is superb and has a nice relaxed vibe about the place but overall it is expensive and people living a Bohemian lifestyle don't tend to have sufficient funds to live in Central Brighton unless the live in "Succession Acquired Property".

People are very relaxed though which was a good thing.

If Swansman has decend funds to afford Central Brighton it won't take long to find people living a Bohemian lifestyle but I wouldn't say that sort of lifestyle is blindingly obvious except for the large amount of people sleeping rough.

He will no doubt enjoy the experience. I did but I found it too touristy in the summer which was to be expected

I think Hove especially the central areas have changed quite a lot in last 20 years, loads more nice restaurants, bars, coffee shops etc. Good mix of people but I agree probably not as bohemian as some other parts of our city. Bohemian in my opinion is not always good though , it usually means lots of lazy workshy type people.

As it looks like my economy possibly wont be entirely terrible this spring I'm planning to go to Brighton in April or May.

I'm planning to stay for two or three weeks and if the right opportunities come I might just stay all summer.

Whenever I go somewhere I usually end up in pretty... Bohemian environments. Maybe there is a student association of slackers, hippies, stoners and culturally creative people. Or maybe a neighborhood with the same clientel.

I've understood that Brighton is quite gentrified though so there might not be much of that, but maybe in the surrounding villages? What about Falmer?

Also you people, young or old, grumpy or wise, are going to the pub with me.

The accomodation above is owned by a BHAFC supporter and is in a great location. Let me know when you have finalised a date and I'll see if he will give you a bargain

This Airbnb is in peacehaven , a fairly nondescript surburb about a 25 min drive into central Brighton ( can take 45 mins in rush hour ) . How is this a good location for an Airbnb ! Are you joking ? People coming to our city for a weekend want Airbnb in either. Central Brighton or central hove near all the bars and cool restaurants and a 10 min walk to either btn or hove train station they don’t want a boring suburb miles away. Bit like saying u want to stay in Mayfair London but end up in Croydon!

I am coming to Brighton for 3 weeks in April. I will stay with relatives and probably do some couch surfing at friends.

Point on the drive from Peacehaven to Brighton - I doubt if he's bringing his car, if he was he could at least park for free in Peacehaven, or actually park.

If you’re in Portslade I’ll buy you a pint in my local the Victoria #properpub

Or even better (and likely cheaper) The Foghorn

Don't forget to visit the Seven Stars pub in central Brighton, in all its historical significance.

Have you considered writing to the club about this?

Going for cheap place to stay. The Bohemian way would be to thumb it into Central Brighton. You never know how long it takes but life becomes an adventure.
