Harry didn't want to be part of the family at all as he hated the press intrusion, which he believes killed his mother. He still has trauma from walking in public, aged just 12, behind his mother's coffin. He was so frightened Prince Philip offered to walk with him. Meghan had a miscarriage a couple of years ago and a photographer leapt out of a shrub to photograph her coming out of the clinic. Who can live with that every day of their lives. That's why he got out but is villified (or rather his wife is) for it.

I get all of that but what I don’t get is doing interviews with Oprah Winfrey and touting themselves in the press whilst trying to use the Royal connection in commercial deals. If he had just gone to ground once he left Europe I would feel differently. I kind of feel sorry for him too, he seems well under the thumb.

Don't believe it. It's so easy to blame the woman (see Carrie) He's very much his own man. How many times have they given interviews? Not many and they just wanted to put their side of the story as they are entitled to.

Not even if he was adorned in military uniform? Surely your training would just kick in and you’d be totally subservient? He does have royal blood after all?

Oooh no, not for me, could tell you a few stories about him when he was training for PWO on Edinburgh, all from reliable sauces you understand [emoji12]

And this is one of the few controversies we actually know about. Imagine how many have been covered up and how many people have been bought off in the past...

Indeed, would love to have a butcher’s at Maxwells little black book, bet there is a few well connected clacker valves doing the old 5p 50p routine right now…

Well there were the queen mum's cousins who were put into a mental health institution. Not sure if it was exactly covered up but it does seem somewhat cruel that the queen mum was a patron of Mencap and yet they were basically abandoned and forgotten by the royal family. I know that in those unenlightened times it wasn't only the royal family who put less fortunate members of their family into such places but to me it does highlight how ruthless the royal family can be when protecting its image.

I think you could well be mistaken, the British people love the Royal Family, it is just a few, very vocal lefty blowhards and Momentum loons that get their knickers in a twist about it all.
God save the Queen.

In reality I think you are mistaken if you want to compare hard core royalists with hardcore republicans the numbers are a lot closer than you would imagine. Now the significant bucket of people are those that are indifferent or not really give it much thought. Those are the people that will probably sway towards anti monarchy in future years.

It doesn't really come down to leftist opinion it comes down to what is right for modern day Britain. Is biological entitlement right in 21st century democratic Britain or is this stuff really just all in the past. I loosely compare support to the monarchy with the n umbers of people that attend Sunday mass every Sunday. Those numbers are dwindling as traditionalists pass away. Young Britains don't really give too hoots about the Queen and are more open to progression and equality rather than tradition.

On the leftist side I would say that the argument that mutilcultural Britain will without question be 'ruled' by a white, heterosexual, male, Christian upon the next 3 coronations will play into their hands. That is just odd!

More countries are moving to republics than the other way round. If you think that a HOS should be crowned simply by coming out of the right vagina at that right time then I would argue that that is just a bit backwards.

Really? Maybe in your bubble everyone loves the royal family but in mine I would say the majority are indifferent at best, with a significant proportion questioning why we owe any respect to such a dysfunctional bunch of misfits. And these aren't "lefty blowhards".

You just reminded me of another contradiction that tends to be forgotten about the RF.

For years The Queens husband was a honorary chief of the WWF (the wildlife version.

Thats the same bloke who would regularly shoot and encourage others to shoot all kinds of wildlife in the UK.
He is also known to have shot a Tiger in India, a Rhino in Africa and even an Elephant.

Thankfully I’m not likely to ever be in your bubble. Most serving and ex service personnel adore the Royal family. I suppose they are not for everyone, each to their own.

It would be interesting to see a survey of serving and ex service personnel to see which of the following they would vote for, do they:

a) adore the entire Royal Family?
b) admire the Queen but the think the rest are a waste of space and that the civil list should only apply to the monarch?
c) think that royalty is an outmoded institution which has no relevance in the modern world?
d) feel completely indifferent?

Indeed progression and equality is the direction of travel, having a monarch is quaint but has become outdated, Republics come with their problems too, but overall are more egalitarian.

Personally, I'm not that bothered either way whether we are monarchy or not as in our case its largely symbolic. That's not to say our constitution doesn't needs reform. If there's one lesson from the last few years is its proven to be incompatible for the dishonest actors of the modern age
