Goal difference

Nothing special given that when we 1st reached the play offs we did so with a negative goal difference. During the season we seemed to either win 3-2 or lose 4-0.
However if you struggle to have a positive goal difference if a team does get promoted its probably a sign that they're coming straight back down.

3 teams in the top 7 have a negative goal difference. That's weird.

It's also very good our GD is a whopping 15 better that the team immediately below us.

Very poignant after last season

Must have been late February before we had a +14 goal difference last season.

I know we're only level on points now with what we had at this stage but it feels so different this season. We'd started brilliantly with a fully fit squad but had started drawing a lot as injuries hit and hadn't won by more than one goal. This season we've now won 7 out of 9 (in an unbeaten run) despite a number of injuries. Imagine the impact losing Kayal for 6 games (with more to come) would have had last season.

If you look at previous seasons, goal difference is a pretty sound indicator of probability of promotion.

(first to sixth - bold teams promoted)
2015/16 - 37, 32, 30, 34, 23, 21
2014/15 - 53, 41, 40, 31, 19, 18 (we were -10 btw!!)
2013/14 - 40, 35, 32, 16, 13, 15

Best defense by some distance, goal difference hovering at +1 per game = very promising signs.

It's probably been mentioned elsewhere but to see our GD compared to our two main rivals improve by 10 and 5 in the course of one afternoon is amazing.

It does help that we've not conseded in two-thirds of our games so far this season. That is impressive.

I've been paying quite a bit of attention to the way GD is panning out, not just GD overall, but scored and conceded as separate indicators.

Even before this weekend's fixtures, guess which champo team from last season's respective tallies most closely resemble Brighton's pattern this time out?

10 & 4 - assuming you mean Newcastle...

But yes a 10 goal swing is amazing - we were discussing this yesterday - everyones GD is fairly tight apart from a couple at the bottom & is & Newcastle up top... Encouraging...

This, it normally takes weeks so to accelerate our GD against Huddersfield by 10 in one game is, as you say, amazing.
